Hi again 👋,
I have never understood why so few activities are match made? I don't just mean in the era of the portal, but it has been really amplified as an issue for me since it's introduction. It is a genuine question, and one that I feel may mark me out as a dullard because after more than 10 years I still do not know the answer.
It never really bothered me too much when I was in an entire universe that I could actually choose what I wanted to do. However, now that Destiny 2 as a game, has been replaced by The Portal, I am no longer in a universe, able to do as I wish, no, I am now playing a whole other game that presents 28 'scenes' that are not seamlessly connected together, not connected by a story that continues, they are, or may as well be, discrete cuts from a once expansive, intriguing, and fabulous game.
I really loved this game, and would like to continue to love this game. However, I fear this latest paradigm does not want players like me. Instead it seems to want only players that have ready made teams that can take these now disparate offerings, and be satisfied with them.
I am truly gutted.
Sorry, this turned into a therapy session 😳
Cheers,
Dave

Huge +1. As long as matchmaking is optional, everything should have matchmaking. The fireteam finder is just crappy, annoying and time-consuming matchmaking.
-
No match making means “NO” to whatever the activity is for me…period. I’m here to play, not here to hunt down someone to play with.
-
It’s so boring but been like it for ages, I used to enjoy grinding strikes when they were actually strikes (not battlegrounds) and had a bit of variation. Now it’s just the same 3/4 games in a row
-
5 now 3 duplicate -blam!- 1 rewardless onslaught 1 some random activity from the basement
-
And no omnigul strike
-
Totally agree , fireteam ops should all be matchmaking it's just so easier than going through fireteam finder , can understand for raids but come on man make it easier 👍 just one click instead of 5
-
The explanation I have heard before is that the player base is not large enough to handle everything matchmade as the wait times would be too long, so they try to funnel the majority of players into fewer matchmade activities. 🤷

its absolutely wacky... it takes so long to put a team together using fireteam finder. I'm 483 and most of the time my application isn't accepted. I have to usually put together my own team and people don't bother reading the specifics in the post ie. new gear only. you're just constantly trying to squeeze every inch out of the point system to get a piece of tier 5 gear. everything has a timer on it and to once again squeeze that scoring system you have to put on pressure cooker and its just a constant race against the clock. every single activity is a white knuckle ride. there have been times where I have spent several hours in Destiny and have only played a couple of activities because I couldn't

get a team together, we failed it due to timers or we got error coded back to orbit. it still is easier and more efficient to play solo which is absolutely boring. I am basically bored. its just not fun anymore. it makes me sad.

Destiny Rising having MM on their hardest mode…yet we can’t get it for most normal modes here. Like yes, you’ll get bonehead teams in Rising but you will find a good match and finish it. At least give us the option.

Imagine if everyone LFG'ing was spread across however many nodes there are. Wait times would be rediciulous i'd assume.
-
All activities should have matchmade available.
-
I have never understood why so few activities are match made?
"Friendgame is the endgame" or something like that. They want you in a clan with people who all play the same thing at the same time, or lfg. 3/6 people isn't massive but it's a "mmo social game".
-
There are so few players overall, even smaller set for fireteam activities. it takes a while for matchmade activities to be filled up with just 3, can you imagine these ever getting filled up with all fireteam activities on matchmade mode? No evil intent here, just a practical decision.

Edited by happy_hunter: 9/22/2025 1:09:56 PMBlimey, I didn't realise so many of you had replied and commented, moving the conversation along. To be absolutely honest, I have just worked out that the number I see by my post is the number of replies and comments (I think 😳) and that poked my curiosity to find these replies. I am thick as 💩!! So, once again, thank you so for your answers and comments 😁👍 Cheers, Dave

Right. It makes zero sense that 90% of the activities in "Fireteam" ops have no matchmaking to help you find a... fireteam. Brilliant!

I feel your pain buddy , I really do, I only pop on briefly everyday and do a couple of matchmade games then log off and play something else, I feel more limited than I used to, I love the game it used to be

Just need a quickplay playlist for all difficulties.
