There's a few reasons that I see why it's bad. For example, what if the weapon you're excited for and want to play for, isn't released for weeks? Do you just not play the new content while it's fresh and people are around? Do you have to convince people to play the activity they've already got sick of grinding because your weapon is finally available? What if you can't get on, during certain week/s but you have the time at launch? What if the weapon you're hunting is the last one to come out, and that only leaves you with a week (minus all the day to day activities like work, school, family, errands, sleep, etc) to try and grind to get that "fancy" ornamented version that goes away at the end of the week? Why do something for goodwill when you need it most, and then for no reason other than trying to force a weekly login metric, throw in unnecessary speed bumps that you KNOW the community will be upset by?

Those are valid points for sure, I think Bungie will modify their stance if it appears some guardians encounter difficulties obtaining specific weapons within the time threshold. Obviously Bungie is trying to extend the season but given the current state of affairs the options are slim. When the event debuts we’ll have a better idea how long it takes to earn a specific weapon and potential problems down the road for the final weapons. 🙀

Well, weapon focusing will definitely help, but will it be enough? Only time will tell... I don't see Bungie changing the time gating decision. Oh also, the shader is time gated as well since it requires having collected every weapon. -edit- They actually just announced some changes to the time gating, on Twitter. Everything will be released by the week of April 30th, not later. There's more info in their posts if you care to check.
