My understanding is the old content is fundamentally not compatible with the game currently. They did a major engine update around that time and chose to trim the fat, knowing that if they didn’t they’d have to update tons of assets hardly anyone cares about which would probably have taken another year minimum. I think them being more liberal with bringing stuff back would be nice but I don’t think bringing literally everything back is necessary. I think strikes, raids, and exotic missions are number 1 priority and after that, only bringing back locations/campaigns if they have a good reason to invest the time.

  • The thing is when they made the vault due to the engine updates. It was to store the content not updated yet and we'd get it back ... still hasn't happened. Bungie stole paid for content and made the game "free to play" to justify the removal of the content that people paid for.

So the management didn’t want to spend the money to keep the content updated so they paid marketing to come up with some way to spin it and make it sound necessary when it wasn’t. It was just Bungie being cheap. Again. It’s the same old song and dance with everything they do. Do something dumb and then have a marketing scheme built around “poor devs, we don’t want to overwork them” which is an outright lie. They don’t want to cut into their once massive profits to hire more devs to make the game better. And because of that the game has struggled and Bungie is going to be taken over by Sony. Had they spent the money on optimization, dedicated servers, keeping all content available, and adding more quality content they wouldn’t be having the problems they are. But they hard focused profit and engagement (see: addiction) instead of the focus being on making lots of great content. There is no positive player sentiment left. There’s addicts defending their addiction and there’s recovered addicts trying to point out problems to help them. To be fair, Sony was dumb to buy them. Who in their right mind looks at how Bungie manages Destiny and says “yeah, I want them to run games like that for us too”? Bungie’s entire marketing strategy is this: “gamers are stupid and predictable, lie to them”.
