Phalanx in Starcrossed

I'm having a hard time with Starcrossed Legendary. Not because I can't take on the enemies. I made it all the way to the last boss, a few hits from killing it, and died because I forgot the buff. I handled the enemies just fine. No, it's because I'm getting killed by Phalanx shield blasts through walls, floors, and other geometry that more than sufficiently blocks their blast. The "hard time" is due to frustration of a mechanic that isn't working right. I've noticed in my attempts to reproduce it, it's not consistent. Three examples: The final boss room has a large wall to the right. At the far end of that wall are stairs that lead down to the orange well buff. At the top of those stairs is a sizable wall sufficiently large enough to hide behind from something at the bottom of those stairs. I've had the Phalanx that are in that boss room blast me from the bottom of those stairs despite me being in the corner fully hidden. Yes, I'm sure he didn't come up and kill me because I was watching. I died while putting down my healing well, which puts you in third person, so I could clearly see where it was. They also can't move when charging it up, so there's no way it moved up the stairs. That wall has also provided sufficient protection even when they were much closer. I've had the Phalanx boss in the area before the boss room blast me through the floor while I'm mostly down the stairs towards the blue buff, and it's far enough back I can't see it. I died and watched the blast come out of the stairs aiming down. The first room you enter with the three phalanx bosses. Just before this post I had one kill me through a large tree stump. This stump is more than sufficient protection as it has protected me before many times. Yet this time I died to a direct blast through it. The map isn't being respected by their shield blast in a consistent manner, making for a very frustrating experience.
