I actually hate tormentors. Prefer light bearers except for their wall hacking blade barrage

Yeah, the blade barrage is brutal. But even Lightbears are susceptible to bonk. I think they need to be more aggressive to make them fill the role of "power checking."

So it really limits the weapons you can effectively use on them

Not unlike the Wyverns; it seems as though my shots bounce off 3/4 of their bodies.

It does, sure, but unique things like that are what keeps the power level of the player in check. A mechanic. Shoot the shoulders, shoot the chest. You could argue the precision damage only thing is limiting, but the mechanic itself with the aggression of a Tormentor is a great design.
