Dude, look at how many years it took them to add what they did🤦‍♂️ There was no reason whatsoever that they needed to remove the tribute hall, especially seeing how they just throw whatever content in this game and call it good.

Lighting effects. It's why many of the PvP maps never returned and why some of PvE stuff remains in the content vault. But what ever they put forth between now and Marathon needs to be meaningful and fun. I feel this could help people get their bearings outside of a setting filled with vets, cheese, and try hards. They know they have to produce if they want to survive. Hopefully it won't take them too long to help the core playlists and new player onboarding.

Mind you, half the game was removed over 4 years ago that they said they would bring back. I understand it takes work, but even their "rebuilt engine" is struggling to handle what content is in this game as it is.
But what ever they put forth between now and Marathon needs to be meaningful and fun.
I joke around, but this isn't a joke. I don't believe they understand what the word meaningful/fun means. Their decisions for this game have always been to the extreme, never a happy medium. The tribute hall gave players a fun way to try things out, but I never really used it because I started losing interest in the game seeing how that is when this business started building this game to waste a players time more than anything else. Taking things from us only to replace them with recycled content from D1, or just very poorly boring designed content.

They are not unfounded. You have every right to express your concerns. Perhaps then we can repurpose that passion and energy, as you speak in the forums quite often, to put forth solutions or desirable potentials you'd like to see made manifest. They don't always get everything right and are clearly driven by making a profit, but that's under threat now. And they are only human. If they were ever listening, I imagine it's this moment.

  •
They don't always get everything right and are clearly driven by making a profit,
For me it's not about getting it right, it's about at least trying to put effort into attempting to do right. This game has a hell of a lot of potential, and there are many things they could be doing that are actually simple tasks to improve the players experience. It's like your request for the shooting range. It's effort, but it's not as much effort as some try to make it out to be. They have had many years of this request to design a decent shooting range, and they took the path that was the least effort 🤷‍♂️ That's the problem here, cutting corners as much as they do has affected this game in many ways when they could just simply do the right thing and save themselves and the player base the headache.
Undoubtedly. I don't know the specific difficulties of game development and I understand they are running a business. They were probably quite pleased by their valuation while not over delivering and planned on coasting to the end. What do you think would make for a good shooting range? In your eyes how could they produce it with maximum efficiency without it appearing half-assed? I more so want bots we can place in private matches than anything else really. So people can learn to play the game so their suggestions aren't so awful. Killing crucible 6-9 months at a time and getting mad when they get what they asked for.

You got to use your weapons/abilities, etc... to see how they feel/played out going up against something. Players like moments, visual efforts, and sound effects. All of that plays a huge role in how players will view things.

I think everyone should get to learn how to use them to the greatest effect. We are god slayers. People should feel like it, in appropriate doses. On another topic, I have enjoyed slightly less oversaturation of special and abilities in Checkmate. Something in between would be nice.

  • Just to go back to what you were talking about the engine. IMO I believe the rebuild was more so they could bring D1 content over because as far as I know, the rebuild was done before the tribute hall was added to the game. Unless I'm wrong?

And I think Tribute Hall had been before that, right? When we went to Levi before the Darkness fungus I think. You could be right though.

  • From what I looked up they were gearing up in 2023 to update the tiger engine, but the engine they used for D1 was updated before they released D2, so they say. The tribute hall was already in the game around 2019. So I believe there wouldn't have been an issue leaving it in as the rest of the content that had been in this game since day 1. All they had to do was deactivate the challenges to collect the rewards and let players use the area they were using to try things out.

Even if they used its design as the basis for an expanded practice area, I'd be content. Bots in private matches would change the game for some people though. Obstacle courses to improve speed and accuracy of movement. You're right. They just have to give a sh*t again.
