Utility > damage
You get put at a significant disadvantage when you’re flung back into the air. It would not make sense for it to do more damage than a normal melee at the same time.
You also don’t pray that volatile goes off. It will detonate after you deal enough damage to trigger it.

Unfortunately, the push effect is extremely inconsistent. Sometimes it actually flings them back, but most of the time, it either barely nudges them, or it actually pushes them towards you. It needs a secondary AoE burst after the initial impact with a stronger push effect.

If you throw it too far off center, it can hit an enemy in the side or even the back. In actuality, most of the time it works exactly how you would expect it too. If it ever doesn’t, make a recording and watch it back and you’ll notice the mistake.

So if I want it to actually fling them, I would have to launch it a certain way, like directly at their legs or torso?

Please ignore the clown for they seek only to spew garbage
So if I want it to actually fling them, I would have to launch it a certain way, like directly at their legs or torso?
If it hits them at the front, they’ll get knocked backwards. If it hits them on the side, then they get knocked to the side. If it hits them in the back, they get knocked towards you. Lag can also play a role in the direction they get knocked, but it’s not often that you’ll encounter that. Best way to get used to it (or anything tbh) is to boot up a private match with a buddy and just mess around with it. I find it to be one of the best melee options in the game for PvP. Nothing wrong with disagreeing and wanting more options though. I don’t exactly like it in pve.
