Every week brings a new disappointment from Bungie. I cancelled my pre-order for The Final Shape, and this may be the end for me. I am very tired of them increasing the grind incrementally to see how much players will tolerate. Having crafted every possible weapon, I know for a fact that having a large amount of Glimmer is important when you want to level up a weapon immediately. With the loss of Shards and planetary materials Bungie removed the necessary resources and they increased the grind. At this point I am thinking about when, not if, might be the right time to leave forever. If the impact of the Shard loss is too great, then I am done after next season at the latest.

  • They did this in D1 & people forget, it's done to keep total playtime hitting projections whilst losing players. I forget all of it but it was something like removed weekly nightfall 25% xp buff, lowered vendor xp from events, increased vendor reputation needed to rank up (2500 to 3000) & there was more, so you play much longer for that same reward. A Dev wrote on Reddit that the material part of the exotic sword quest was added last minute to put 2 hours extra time onto players who still played, same with warsats, they lowered spawn times for a quest so people where stood around for hours. Then look now, the recent changes. Made nightfall 200k from 100k, lowered multipliers to under 1, so now it takes 3 nightfalls to get your pinnacle, not 1. Weekly strikes was 3, now 5. Banner pinnacles was 17 games per character for 4, so 51 for 12. Now with the new points system it's 1050 points so takes over 100 games, not 51. Even bounties, I notice because I do a lot but you used to be able to do the 4 daily gambit bounties in 1 game, but now it's get 10 volatile kills, get 10 scorch kills, get 15 strand ability kills meaning it takes 3 games to do them, not 1. I do lots of repeatable bounties & they're now heavily weighted to awkward ones, kill 3 invaders, get 5 PvP melee kills, get 25 pve melee kills, delete them & they just repeat, easier ones like kill 5 hunters are all extinct.

  • I complete many repeatable bounties, too. My characters are at 1833 and my Bright Dust is 350,000. The loss of Shards means that abandoning a repeatable bounty which would take too much time is now a concern due to the cost. We are still far from the intense grind of Y1 in D1, but this is the direction that D2 is heading slowly every month. Bungie is using behavioral psychology to determine how much players will tolerate until they leave the game en masse. I am nearly at that point where I am nearly ready to leave the D2. This is not an impulsive and irrational exit with a return later. I went through a similar decision-making process with PvP. Disgusted by the neglect, poor matchmaking, and terrible lobby balancing, I left PvP nearly 2 years ago after having played thousands of matches. As a substitute for D2, I tried Starfield, and I became bored with it after an hour. However, I plan to order an AKAI MPC X SE soon to revitalize my involvement with music. There is life after D2, and it will not be Marathon or anything else from Bungie.
