Changing the glimmer cap to unlimited would just move the wealth disparity from shards to glimmer, completely invalidating the reason for the shard removal.

If you think that having a basically unlimited hoard of a specific resource doesn't give some players an advantage then you don't understand what the experience is like for new players.
