Abuse
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I was curious as to what happens when you report messages. Today I was subjected to a string of message abuse that was uncalled for and unnecessary. It's bad enough I get kicked but to be subject to that sort of tirade is uncalled for.
I don't profess to be as quick or agile as some, but at 63, pushing 64, I give it my best. I thought that being a part of a fireteam was just that. You complete campaigns as a unit, not a glorified glory seeker. I guess they'll be no more firetems for me. Maybe at my I should stick to going alone or stop playing. I don't know. I know there's a lot of cheats out there and maybe there's more than I thought that don't want old guts playing. One thing I do know, being a 63 year old vet I certainly know what mateship and teamwork is about.
Apologies for the rant, and for those that have kick me before for not being up to their expectations I apologies as well.

If you are receiving these messages through bnet (this website) then reporting it sends it to us. We'll moderate it appropriately when we see it, but in the meantime you can block the user sending it to you through their profile page. If you are receiving these through the in-game chat then you can report them in-game for "abusive chat". Bungie handles those. If you are receiving these through the platform you're playing on (Xbox, Playstation, etc...) then report them there as others have already mentioned. I'm pretty sure there's an option to block them as well so I would recommend that, too.

Many young folks today don't know how to conduct themselves appropriately. They also think everyone is like them, the same age and in the same boat. Ignore them. Us old guys have to stick together. I'm losing a step. That's one of the reasons why I don't do LFG or Raid anymore. Instead, I fly solo. I can still do well in the Crucible!

2 RepliesWhile I sympathize with the OP and everyone else who has suffered this abhorrent treatment in a video game, I think Bungie have played a small part in this and should do a lot more to combat the problem. They created this wonderful utopia where guardians from all over the planet fight together against all evils of the universe, and get rewarded with all sorts of amazing loot for their combined efforts. But just like the blinkered, left wing politicians of our own world, they never see the problems that it creates, and never really works in the long run. We are not guardians, we are humans, and just like in real life, there are many wonderful players out there, but also nasty, greedy, selfish ones. The best loot has always come from end content, and end content has always been team orientated. Maybe if Bungie would have given more accessability for solo players to get top loot instead of forcing people into teams of strangers, this abuse would be a lot less frequent. Not everyone can, or wants to be, part of a clan or fireteam. I find it ironic too, that while the abusers are allowed to carry on as normal, any victim who tries to warn other decent players by naming and shaming, is punished. As commented in other posts, all you can do is send in a report and hope that justice is done.

Oh to be 63 again! There are probably veteran clans out there. I'm a vet, but not a joiner. Did that with the military and was not amused.

Gamers are toxic. Toxic gamers come in all ages and backgrounds. Being in a decent clan or chill LFGs is a good way to avoid that toxicity. If your fireteam members have too high of an ego or too much negative energy, just walk away. The next group could be more fun.

Edited by Kuhl MC: 9/12/2023 3:27:02 PMIt's sad to read posts like that in a team oriented game tbh. I understand, that certain people want to finish stuff as quickly as possible. On the other hand, I have experienced, that people learn stuff differently. Some get it first try, others need several attemps first in order to get the full picture. I personally belong to the second category. When in a new raid encounter for example, I first need to see stuff like overall encounter flow, enemy density and enemy spawnpoints for a few times to get some orientation before feeling comfortable. As you can imagine, this doesn't go too well most of the time. I had my fair share of toxic raid groups back in D1 so I didn't bother with them in D2 anymore. So far one (!) RoN clear, one Vow final boss encounter and one GoS run until the final boss, when some people had to leave, that's all. The same goes for dungeons, one complete run through the Caitl one (just can't remember the name) and one final encounter on the Seraph one. So practically no endgame for me. I don't care, though, because I value my sanity and a good time while gaming more than certain loot and I'm not willing to cope with unmannered toxic individuals anymore. Solo forever and by the way, I'm 50 years old and see my reflexes dwindling as well already. I sincerely hope, that you can draw fun from the game nevertheless, because that's all that matters for your time spent in the end.

Honestly just turn chat off and block anyone from messaging not on your friends list. It’s a toxic ego fuelled landscape and I’d rather not have to participate in it.

You don't wanna catch yourself wanting to team up with people who don't respect you. Whatever loot or clear you want isn't worth it. Also instantly block on the first rude message. Not 4th or 6th, the first time they come incorrectly, block them. I don't understand "he kept messaging me rude/troll/abusive messages" just block them.

Join a clan of older players and play with them only (activities that requires voice chat) . I'm sure there are some, at least in the times of D1 there were some. I'm 43 and I've been called ..."grandpa"... in voice chat, but since I don't raid/dungeon and very rarely do activities that require voice chat I haven't bothered looking for a clan like that yet.

I am terribly sorry to learn of your poor experience and personally, can relate on that. Which was why I form my own guild/clan mainly as a safe space for like minded individuals to chill and enjoy Destiny Universe together. We all enjoy the solace of silence and appreciation of the gameplay here. Again, that abuse you experience in Destiny defo is unwarranted and uncalled for, I pray you feel much better soon.

I quit accepting messages and LFG fir similar reasons. Im 54 and would welcome a mature fireteam member if you want to play. I ain’t great at crucible but will play anything. Dungeons, raids, strikes, whatever. xilxad on psn

If only the commendations system actually meant something and you could give somebody a negative review for being a toxic -blam!-. The system would probably get abused but you be be able to spot these guys from a mile away and avoid them.
