I bought d2 solely to play the campaigns, but when it went f2p, the game became an incomprehensible mess with campaigns hidden in a menu, I had to look up on the internet how to replay the campaign with a friend new to the game, but anyway it was an awful experience since the progression was basically removed, with all characters starting at max lvl (so the story parts where you go to the shards to get new abilities were removed, making the story weird at these moments), and absolutely no difficulty scaling to adapt to this change, thus removing any challenge. This had basically become a "non-game". Then they just deleted the base game campaigns and the first 3 DLCs, leaving only endgame content (maybe not even all of it, some behind a paywall), which I couldn't care less about. Why do they even bother making story campaigns at this point ? They clearly don't care about us campaign players, and this is very frustrating, I bought the game for this very campaign, but now it is gone forever, I never had a chance to play forsaken (learned too late about it's removal), so I'll be forever missing a part of the story even if I buy the new DLCs, which I don't even want to buy because of how Bungie has treated campaign content this far. This is very frustrating as I actually liked the campaign, and would like to experience it whenever I want from start to finish, including DLCs. I would just like a streamlined way to play the campaign, where you start the game at the beginning of the story, then the game just guides you through it, that way you can enjoy the story more "organically", without having to search for it in menus. It would not remove anything from the game, as you would still be able to play endgame content if you like, to take a break from the campaign, or just ignore the campaign entirely if you like, with the option to start a max lvl char. Pretty much every other live service game with a campaign does that, D2 used to do that, I loved it, why did they have to break it ? Let me know if anything has changed, but the way I understand it, it hasn't gotten any better, even for endgame content, I feel like the community is always complaining, and Bungie is only sometimes pretending to care, only to get people to buy the next expansion, then screw it up all over again. And I also believe the game is still an incomprehensible mess, with a melting pot of all the live service addictive mechanics known to humankind, accessible through very convoluted menus/mechanics, making it very hard and unejoyable to get into and understand. Oh and the game isn't f2p, sure you can download the game, but most of it is gated behind different paywalls (there used to be the base game campaign in that f2p offering) making it unclear what you have to even buy to get what you want, further complicating new or returning players onboarding (another shady tactic to make us buy more stuff than we actually want, to make sure what we want is in there somewhere, god do they love money more than their game and players). Damn it really feels like a shameless mobile game. I don't have time to lose with any of that bullsh*t, but would still like to play what I enjoy of the game. Also, I know this will never happen, but I would love a PC port of D1 (or maybe remake D1 campaign missions in D2, but I'd rather get the real deal), as I would like to be able to experience the full saga (wich won't be possible anyways until they bring back old campaings). I know in maybe 10-20 years it won't be possible anyways because the campaign isn't playable offline, and the servers will eventually shut down (yay more live service bullsh*t), but having the possiblity to do it for at least a few years would be nice. So there it is, my rant about Bungie prentending to have a game with a campaign, only to not care about players who'd want to play it, thus giving us no incentive to return to the game and buy the new DLCs. And don't talk to me about watching the story on YT, I want to experince the campaign, not just watch the story, this is a game, not a movie. I guess if you're just here for the endgame, you don't care about any of this. Sorry about the length, I needed to externalize my frustration of not being able to play a game I liked anymore, even though I bloody paid for it ! (and hatred of live services as a whole, but that's hardly a controversial take).
