Do you guys not know what servers are?
-
Edited by xbroggiex: 6/8/2023 9:22:05 PMDowntime has increased across the board. What used to be 15 minute downtime for hotfixes is now 1 hour and 30 minutes, so Bungie is lying through their teeth that the DCV solved any issues. The game was around 115-120GB in Arrivals and went down to 50-60GB in Beyond Light... now we are back up to 115-120GB in file size. If the issue is their servers then they should invest in better servers that can maintain all that content... but actually the way the servers work they don't have much stress due to most of the instances being done through a player host rather than a dedicated Bungie server.
-
The file size issue is due to the games engine inability to properly compress data, the exact se issue it had in d1 as well as the exact se issue it had for halo reach.
-
Yeah, if Bungie really wants this game to continue for years and years they need to figure out a way to compress it heavily which could just be straight up impossible with their engine or they just have to invest into making each piece of content optional downloads ala MCC.
-
You do know they've added a bunch of content over the past 3 years, right?

Edited by xbroggiex: 6/8/2023 9:27:58 PMGame file size doesn't matter we already know this. If it is Bungie would've found a way to compress game files like Warframe did. The servers aren't under as much stress due to player hosted instances anyway, the only thing the servers have to figure out it is when an enemy dies and when to give out reward for kills or completion. Then maybe storing user data but with Bungie they do the bare minimum when it comes to that. If you are arguing content relevancy then just because content is irrelevant to a veteran player doesn't mean its irrelevant to a new player. That and Bungie can easily figure out way to make older content relevant again through clever use of rewards. Division 2 can get me to replay old missions again and again and I don't mind because I can replay them and it still drops relevant rewards for me.

[/quote] Wait a minute. We agree. Bungie didn't remove content to help the servers. OP said they did, and is wrong. I think we both agree on this

Edited by xbroggiex: 6/11/2023 10:34:00 PMThey did and they didn't. Its a vague "stability" reasoning, which from what is happening in the game right now doesn't seem like anything has been achieved. Servers are in an even worse state and the game is getting worse and worse bugs. OP is right in his aggravation that all this stuff has been removed and servers haven't been improved, since Bungie wasn't really specific on what it would achieve.
