What happened was they went free to play. People have so much invested in the game by now that Bungie can slowly keep making the game less consumer friendly, put in less effort and maximize profits. Trying to increase playtime, all the the stuff in eververse, season pass increase, dungeon separation... Too many things to talk about but in general someone decided to sacrifice the games integrity for money. The only things they will actually pay attention to is how many people are playing the game and how many people are buying stuff. But Bungie is too damn good at making trailers for people to not immediately pre order the deluxe edition.
