Single button presses/minimal directional movement isn't enough to prevent the afk timer.
You should be picking up your fish every few minutes to avoid being kicked by the timer. It's unlikely that Bungie will change the afk timer for fishing.

this is unfortunate considering the current meta is to leave the fish on the ground so you can refill the focused fishing meter quickly after public events. disregarding that however, why cant they just have made the fish go directly to your inventory when you leave, or even just go to the postmaster instead? it just feels like bungie had the fishing idea and didn't fully consider how it should have been implemented.
