It's definitely not true, it's just the only thing people want to do. A bubble gives you more buff than well, and if you honestly need a well to defeat nez then you're doing it wrong

Well and Bubble both grant a 25% buff. . Sentinel Shield gives a 40% buff. . Lumina gives a 35% buff. . OP isn't off that WL is super overturned and strong on nearly every subclass (much like Titan throughout the 3.0s). The only exception to this is Void Hunter, simply for the Deadfall/Moebius Debuff. . 3 WLs (2 Wells, 1 Void/Stasis) and 2 Star-Eaters Solar Hunters and a Void Hunter is arguably the best 6 Man loadout possible for PVE. I realize that's actually not all Well-Locks, but Wells enable the entire comp.

Well grants you healing and damage resistance while allowing you to shoot. There’s no denying that bubble can’t hold a candle to well.
