Oh they are playing for their very survival but I would assume a schism, some siding with us and others doing something that endangers us.
I feel like the Nine have been changing over time as they keep retconning the main story and rules of the universe.
So at this point, speculation is all we have.
As to who is who, should we take into consideration that when they were writing the story Pluto had already been downgraded from planet status?
That tidbit been nagging me since we learned about them being tied to planets. The sun seems a likely substitution.

It says in The Witch lore card (again) that one orchestrated that cabal not being detected in the red war, then it says it was punished accordingly Sooo Pluto has a seat on the table but not given the rank of master

The Nine said they are the gravity mass of the planets of Sol At the time of the creation of the Nine, Pluto was still a planet But when this card was written, Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet, right? So the one who “was punished accordingly” could be seen as the Nine downgrading it’s status from a seat on the council to more of an advisory role, much like how Pluto became a dwarf planet

Hmm. A punished partner can feel scorned and one that was already willing to gamble and risk others. That’s a dangerous sort to punish and weaken, they can turn to others. Upset the balance between the Nine. The makings of a narrative. Nice work Guardian.
