Replace shaders with 4 color bars to adjust manually

90% of the shaders are trash, you cannot sort them, you can not mark favourites, the preview in most cases has nothing to do with what the shaders really looks like and it does really weird things sometimes on some ornaments. Just remove the shaders completely and implement 4 color bars on the loadout-screen, so that a player can just shade his character individually. this color bar should include black of course! Additionally, you could add some "perks" to give effects like gloss or different patterns. imho, that would be a great QoL update and would spare us searching around in dozents of shader-screen, just to find out that every single shader does somehow look weird and is never really perfect.

The Shader system as it is presents mostly frustration. It really has to change. Shader sorting is a critically needed improvement, regardless if how we 'fix' shaders! An alternate suggestion: What if we breakup all the existing Shaders into individual Swatches? And alter existing Shaders to become Folders for those Swatches? An example to better explain what I mean: Jacarina / would split up into 1 or more Black Swatches, Some Grey ones, that weird glowy blue that isn't on the Shader Icon, and any other 'hidden' colors. As with all swatches created; individual Swatches would keep together Color/Reflectivity/Saturation/Texture/MovementDynamics + any other associated interactions with our gear or our ornaments. As a convenient ease of use helper, the 'old shaders' could easily be reimagined as 'Folders' for their constituent swatches. Allowing both players and game to continue using the old system when it suited them. The value of doing it this way for Bungie: Less Work/Less Testing - By keeping all these behaviors 'bundled' in the new Swatch system, we could prevent (or at least minimize) bugs or glitches with rendering of existing content that uses the old system. All the old shaders would still be there, and the conventions for handling rendering need not change. Player Benefits: • Huge gain in our ability to create a sense of identity (something Destiny is massively lacking). • Broken into swatches that could be applied as we like, I think most would find the existing library of colors sufficient without negatively effecting our desire for more new Swatches or Shader 'Folders' One step beyond: This system offers another perk that would be a long term benefit to Bungie, Players, and social networking / positive community building within Destiny: Players could easily save and SHARE their own Shader 'Folders' - Forza Racing games have something similar. This could be a great tie in to Bungie's new system for giving fellow Guardians 'accolades' for performance/helpfulness/etcetera. You could also reward such contributions with in game swag. Perhaps these ideas could even be further expanded down the road to create a whole branch of Creative Contribution triumphs and even a Player Title. Its pretty clear Destiny has a wealth of passionate creatives as players, both amateur as well as professionals. A glance at all the player submitted Destiny Art on the D2 App makes that pretty clear. It would be super awesome to give those players a way to contribute IN GAME.
