We should use competitive play to determine the "top 100" sort of situation, only on a much larger scale, everyone qualifying earns the privilege of being considered one of the canonical guardians each character mentions from time to time
We could also do a similar thing in PvE to determine those left out as the canonical guardians that are "studying" the darkness through usage of it

It can be if it's moderated properly If it can avoid giving ranks or extra titles within the two initial ones, then it should work quite well It also provides a necessity for bungie to have every players name listed down with a certain prerequisite determining which they go to This can provide an easy "hyperlink" of sorts in combatting scammers, hackers and network manipulation as well, though minimally beneficial in the short term Competition is only as friendly as it's competitors will allow, that's up to us to be show good sportsmanship
