You don’t don’t to determine what constitutes the skill level by what you prefer. Whatever the game mode brings will be what it brings and the skill will be built of whatever that is. So saying the lack of sliding, or whatever it is you like, means we can’t determine skill inside the mode is nonsense.

You missed the point entirely. A huge part of the skill gap in Destiny is control of your guardian. How you move while shooting and how you move while using your build. They go hand in hand. That is a fact. This has NOTHING to do with what I like. And Bungie diminished that skill gap because, in their words, movement was "oppressive." Tightening the skill gap and then selling a mode meant to celebrate skill is counterproductive.

  • It seems to me that Bungie’s description of accuracy in the air and while sliding being “oppressive” is the point you’re missing. In their view, as the designers of this game, that created an imbalance in play they were no longer comfortable with. You may not like it, but it’s their sandbox. You criticize the changes as reducing skill, yet at the same time highlight the skill is a combination of shooting while moving and build effectiveness. You completely ignore that the AE changes created (at least are intended to create) a new facet of building your character to be able to increase the ability to shoot while moving. So from what I can see, their intention isn’t necessarily to reduce skill, but to change the interplay of those components of skill so you have to make choices on how you want to play. That’s not a reduction in skill, it is simply a change in the skill paradigm. Again, you may not like it, but it’s their sandbox.

Does AE benefit from a stat? Mobility? Resilience? No. How about mods? Nope. Useful exotics? Just one (being Ophidians)? Lucky Pants are niche at best and require you to not have your primary out first. Tricksleeves and others are are also niche at best for the most part. How about any fragments that are actually good? Nope. Got one solar fragment that requires a solar kill first. Hardly can be used, or even leaned into, in a competeitve PvP 3v3 setting (the playlist trying to emphasize skill). How about aspects? One. On solar Warlock. Please tell me how I'm supposed to make a unique build for AE in the current sandbox. Bungie did NOT provide any competetive way to build into it, outside of random niche playstyles and Heat Rises, and they said in a previous TWAB that they would, because they even acknowledged there's no real way to build into it right now. It was a direct trimming of the skill gap, and was only "oppressive" when used againt players who wouldn't even be playing against players with good movement now. At least not until they developed some of their own. Is it "oppressive" if a player with good movement matched an equally good player with good movement? I doubt it. Now they both just lean into SMGs and sidearms (primarily) because they're inherently good in the air. And SBMM and rank-based matchmaking will/do exist, so lesser-skilled players aren't getting "oppressed" by movement anyways.
