Drifter is Secretly Working for Witness???

So I was watching old Destiny cutscenes(as one does when bored), and noticed a very interesting piece of dialogue that may have more meaning now. In the cutscene from Jokers Wild, the one with the card game, the Drifter said “Gambit is a chance at… Salvation”. “Salvation” is a very important word in Destiny right now, its often used by the Witness, and often used by his disciples or by those working for him. Do you think that the Drifter’s choice of words here were hinting at something, or am I just too tired after work and looking too deep into things? Also that’d explain why he encouraged us to look for the relics even after knowing they were pieces of a disciple. If you think about it, he kind of started our whole involvement in this season in general. Food for thought…

  • Negative. Drifter is the ultimate survivalist. He will do anything & everything to stay alive. The witness is the complete opposite of what motivates drifter.

  • Make another comment. Remember when the drifter stood before the emissary and the coin had a Dorito... I said we need to understand the witness more, really though there is a lot not understood. To me, it will all harken back to a couple of things: Designing freeform thought in a realm based on literals and absolutes. (Why ego and squid mattered? Think of it as ego, Id, and super ego) The ask/demand to protect humanity forever and always. The Garden and Infinite Forest (CoO was brilliant, wish people would have taken the cultists deaths more serious) Existence without the struggle, just existing... The anomaly and Warmind... Infinity in both directions that meet at a point then continue on a path the same yet different (this is all over lore...think smaller than the smallest planck, then the edge on the universe then bigger...one in the other, the other is that one) Slowly peel the veil back to reveal what salvation is.

  • It could. Thing is, we have a lot more that needs to be understood about the Witness. I don't remember when they finally figured out the darkness as a whole, I just remember Luke saying they figured it out.

  • Nah I don't think so. He's on our side, not the Witness

  • No, because back then bungie didn't have a road map and didn't even have a concept of the Witness. It's most likely that he was trying to develop darkness powers or how to use the darkness and that was his goal with gambit. To introduce guardians to darkness and show that its okay to use just like the light.

  • Could have used it ironically. It is cool how Bungie plays the long game with textual breadcrumbs.

  • I doubt it. Drifter's prime motivation is long term survival which is the exact opposite of the witnesses end goal.

  • I don't think so, I think Germaine and Shin created Gambit to weed out dark guardians and those that enjoyed it too much. What Drifter says is "Gambit is a chance at salvation." I believe he is trying to test his fellow Dredgen, I don't believe that Drifter is evil. Drifter only cares about his own agenda, which is his own survival and to prove that you don't need to give into the light or the darkness, if anything he will help find us a way to stop the Witness, mostly so he doesn't end up dead. A rat will always find an escape route.

    • Gambit weeds out trash can guardians. Not to mention above all else, the Drifter has his own survival in mind.

    • I have never trusted the Drifter. He's a space con-man.
