If Bungie actually cared about toxicity against their employees they would move 100% of communication to the forums where they could eliminate 100% of the toxic posts because they control the platform. What bungie actually cares about is having the largest audience possible, and to pawn the expense of moderation off on a third party whose profit motivation is having as much engagement as possible to drive up message and user counts, which includes toxic people.

No. Because it’s a lose-lose proposition for them Don’t clean up the problem, and they subject their staff to absurd levels of abuse. Clean up the problems, and they open themselves up to a PR problem. Those same people would be screaming about “censorship”, and how Bungie is “silencing” criticism of their “terrible game”. (Of course they leave out the part where they behaved in ways that would get you kicked out of a place of business IRW, at best…or have the police called on you, more likely). Nothing good would come of it. So it’s in Bungie’s interests to let another platform deal with the moderation headaches and PR problems. (There was a headline in The Washington Post just yesterday about what changes to Twitter policies are likely if Elon Musk takes over…) Let him deal with it….

It is completely about being cheap.

  • I get the whole reaching a larger audience thing but there are a ton of players who don't have a Twitter account and never will. Those people primarily use the forums. To just not take those people into account is foolish, considering there are many aspects of the game that force us to use this app. Naturally, if the forums are on the app we are forced to use to LFG fire teams and remotely move gear around and so on, it would be far easier to communicate with us here. If Bungie wants to use Twitter for announcements only then fine, but I think Bungie should communicate directly with us here. That's how you form a strong relationship with with the Destiny community. They should start doing Q&A's here and directly answering posts, especially when problems occur (it's just better to get in front of a problem quickly then to let it fester and get out of control). I believe if they did this, toxicity would decrease and Bungies image would only improve. It's good PR.
That's just not going to happen, those days are gone. It's not just Bungie either. Hell it's probably been 15-20 years since actual Devteam members engaged with players on a web forum. If you want Bungie to listen to you and cater to you? Become a streamer with a decent following. You'll have Bungie falling over themselves for you.

  • Streamers I'll admit, have a good amount of influence but they're not all powerful. Let's be reasonable here.
