I've just started playing Destiny and have continuously ran into a very frustrating bug that's preventing me from progressing. When I talk to certain NPCs, my screen fades to black as the game transitions me to their dialogue screen / shop, but then freezes on the black screen completely. Sound ambiance continues to come through my headphones but everything else is frozen. The only way to escape is to hard power off my computer by holding down the power button. If I am on a discord call at the same time, I can still hear and be heard by those in the call. If the task manager is open on my second monitor, it also freezes. I also tested by playing a youtube video, which also froze. Ctrl+Alt+Del causes the mouse to appear over the Destiny screen. I can move it without issue, but clicking does nothing regardless of the screen it is on. The NPCs this has happened with so far are Shaw Han and Ikora Rey. I was only able to complete the intro quest by logging into my account on a friend's computer when I needed to talk to Shaw. I was able to talk to Ikora without issue, but after progressing the quest "A Spark of Hope” to step 2 of 7, the same issue happened with her as well. While testing the aforementioned YouTube video test, Ikora Rey worked. I traveled to the Cosmodrome and tested Shaw with the video playing, and everything froze again. It’s possible this is linked to the number of people in a lobby, but I don’t know how to test that. Computer specs: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz Installed RAM: 24.0 GB System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series Two monitors Things I've already tried: Updating GPU driver Verify game files through Steam Windowed mode and Windowed Fullscreen mode Any help would be greatly appreciated!
