No personal disrespect. But you are simply getting a small taste of what average players experienced playing against you for the last 3 years under CBMM. You are having to compete now if you want to win matches, rather than being allowed to dominate weaker players. Many of whom had little if any realistic chance to beat you. The difference though is you have the skill to fight back, and the ability to compete. What I’m hearing is that you don’t find this as enjoyable. …and that’s the root issue here. The conflict between two irreconcilable definitions of fun. Those who enjoy competing against players of similar skill, versus those who enjoy dominating players of lesser skill. One is competitive. The other is predatory. The market is such that one game can no longer serve both. Which is why half of the Crucibles player base melted away over the last three years. I’m always amazed at how so many high skill players expect average players to accept conditions that those same high skill players consider unacceptable for themselves.

  •

Comp would be a place people can flex whatever cosmetics bungie can throw at them. While doing it every season they can add more cosmetics or even a leaderboard, that say this sweat box is rank #1 this season. I’m almost positive the majority of pvp players would just eat it up if it actually had some incentive.
But just to confirm, they wouldn't have to do comp, would they? Can they still go into other playlists if they chose to? ... Do you see how that solves nothing yet, or should I keep asking rhetorical questions?
No need to ask rhetorical questions. Use your brains & think. If comp is given an incentive to play all season, majority of the sweat box will flock there. Obviously there will be people not interested, but it’s a solution so there’s actually a reason to play pvp. What’s your solution? Loose SBMM in every playlist? Lol

They're not going to spend 100% of their PvP time in that one game mode no matter how good the incentives are, are they? At best, they'll get their rewards in the first week, fortnight tops, and then leave. Then where do they go? Straight back to stomping the casuals who were minding their own business. The entire crux of the argument is 'I want somewhere to chill or maybe try new loadouts', they're not going into the highly competitive game mode to do that, are they? If you haven't noticed, these game modes are the only ones which get incentivised as it is, clearly it's not a solution. And yes, obviously the solution is varying degrees of SBMM in each playlist. What, are you afraid losing a match while you try out a new meme weapon? Lol

  • It was a simple question "How does this help everyone who 'doesn't want to sweat'?" I didn't think you'd get this cut up struggling for an answer...

Just no point going back and forth with someone who’s only ever experienced the low skill end of pvp matches. Tunnel vision is a mf.

  • Because this is when Bungie claimed they broke the SBMM algorithms for Crucible that they just got around to fixing this season.

  • I thought it was 2 years ago, but its not that big of a deal. Nothing with PvP really works like any of us think it does to begin with.

  • Plus Bungie has a habit of claiming that they choose to do things that they actually are being forced to do.

  • Everyone has their boundaries and limitations that they have to work within but I think with PvP whatever the choices are or were just seemed like the best thing to do at the time. CBMM was obviously not making a lot of people happy and SBMM has made a lot of people happy for a week. Here's to the future!

  • Oh I think it will last longer than a week. The crux is WHO is being made happy. The average player, or a vocal minority of high skilled players who feel that dominating weaker players is their just reward. Can please one or the other. But not both.

  • I'm sure it will last for a long time. I will say that if you play PvP a lot its probably about more than "dominating" the weak. That being the main reason for why it was changed just makes it seem like the matchmaking system can't stand on its own two feet when it comes to how it actually works. I also find it weird that when it comes to people talking about how they're getting preyed upon by how it was set up that some of those people seem to want to feel like they matter so much that they'll settle for playing the role of perpetual victims. I can only speak for myself but when I play the game "skill levels" are the last thing on my mind. Its just weird to me that so many people think about preying and domination and all this crazy stuff. That crap literally never crosses my mind when I play PvP.

  • The. Experience. Isn’t. Fun. Going up against player that are impossible for you to beat? Isn’t fun. That’s the drumbeat that so many of you stubbornly refuse to hear. This is not a test of character. It’s a game that is supposed to provide fun through competition, and it was failing horribly at that goal.

  • so its okay for it to happen to other players but if it interferes with your fun it has to get fixed? The great Irony is that eventually higher skill will move on to another game (like they did last time SBMM was around) and then lower skill players will start complaining that SBMM isn't fun anymore because they're now in the higher brackets. Its as predictable as the seasons changing.

I understand that it isn't fun to keep losing even if the game is working right. But its also not that fun when you can't just select any weapon you have and expect it to work right in PvP and then when it doesn't the reason is supposed to be that you're a monster with brain problems. Its that kind of double dippery that I don't like. Can't it just be that some people are having a bad time? Some people probably are basically "victimized" by the PvP always letting everyone do what they're trying to do. But when it has to be to where its like okay you're being "victimized" so now you should control 100% of everything, that's the double dippery. Totally unnecessary imho.

  • Bungie needs to keep working to fix the lag and MM time issues. But I’m sorry. I have zero empathy for those who complain about having to play against people of their own skill level out of one side of their mouth, while going in about what a bad -blam!- they are with the other. …and most of the complaints I’m seeing are ping here are about the latter. Not the former.

Well, that's the thing every time I find myself saying that's not what PvP is about there's like 5 top tier players that say they've "earned" the right to feast on k/d points. The problem with that is that it doesn't usually happen the way they think it does and this game will take what would have been like a .1-.3 k/d difference and turn it into a 2 or 3 full point k/d difference over time with some of the ways CBMM was working. So its not like SBMM is all bad but its just that the things the game does as far as "playing your peers" isn't always exactly what people say its doing either. Sometimes its not even close. And then you get the name calling with it that's the equivalent of people that say "you're not open minded unless you let me spout my racism all over the place" while the game is sometimes convulsing with brokeness so that can kind of suck because people start to not pay that part enough attention.
