Given the leaks both past and present, I think it’s become pretty much set in stone that our next Darkness subclass is coming in Lightfall. If you haven’t seen the most recent leak, an official Bungie source accidentally leaked a new super icon for the Titan, and the color was definitely green lol. Egregore was compared to Stasis as a physical manifestation of Darkness, though it is impure. It feeds on that fear right before dead and attempts to keep its victims alive to relive that pain constantly. I think it was compared like this on purpose. We are getting the pure form of that manifestation, though it doesn’t involve fungus at all in my opinion. Think about how Calus essentially was “Reborn” into the network of consciousness that is the Egregore. Now look at the lore of the Necrotic Grip Warlock gauntlets. The vapor from Thorn affecting a human had him actually happy, chanting “I’m Reborn,” and showing no signs of agony. This is like Stasis. Stasis has been described to cause no pain, but instead when encased there is a feeling of nothingness. No pain or cold, just nothing. So Stasis and the Vapor from the original Thorn both cause death, but in a relatively painless manor. Stasis feels like nothing, and Vapor feels like joy or catharsis. It seemingly affects the nervous system, as Egregore does. And just like Egregore, Thornfeeds on death. Though Egregore feeds incompletely as it is impure. It only feeds on that moment before death, while Thorn feeds from the whole of death and it is hungry. The original Thorn, just as so many predicted, holds a glimpse into our new power, Vapor. It is that pure version of Egregore, and perhaps as victims of Egregore are consumed and the memories and maybe even consciousnesses added to a collective, the same may go for Vapor. The man chanted “I am reborn,” so perhaps he meant h that literally. Of course I don’t know any more than any of you do, but I feel there are too many overlaps in the functionality of Egregore and the power that came from the original Thorn. It isn’t poison per se, as explained by the Necrotic Grip lore, but it is definitely necrotic in nature lol. Tell me what you think! I hope I was clear, I feel like I might’ve rambled a bit. Some keywords for Vapor could possibly be: 1: Consume (feed on death of enemies affected by your abilities) 2: Curse (mark for a violent explosion, think cursed thralls) 3: Corrupt (spread vaporous corruption to enemies, dealing DoT. It doesn’t poison exactly, it corrupts and narcotizes the body and soul) Obviously there would be more on both the offense and beneficial sides for the keywords, but these just came to mind. This is all based on my own observation and opinion. :)
