Ive never heard anyone say she was the traveler. But the traveler being evil has been a fan theory.

Mostly a joke, popularity has gone down over the years. That idea has lingered. OG storyline, it kinda was from what was available.

People made some connections between her and The Speaker and came up with the theory that she herself was the traveler. She also went missing from the Tower (both in D1 and D2) for a period of time and that tied in with the lore of the current events somehow. She's also the main NPC involved in both the Festival of the Lost and Dawning events all about honoring the dead, and the Traveler revives the dead, etc... I can't remember the story, but it was all loose connections anyway.

She did go missing in from the start of d2 but it would make sense because she would have left to be closer to the fragment in the edz like we did. There is a lore book about her helping refugees etc during the time of the red war. The more i think about it the traveler is most likely her ship/technology. I think shes a parasite that charges her ball with life force energy. Could be another child of her race or simply just the source of her power. I don’t think shes a god. Just very advanced.
