Unfortunately, this still really sacrifices the experience of outlier players. Not commenting on if this is better for the health of the game as a whole or not, but as it stands outlier players (both good and bad) are in for a rough time. It seems like bungies goal is to keep the maximum skill variance of a match under 200 ish. (note that they said 200 skill variance means about a 75% confidence that the higher skill player will win the engagement, and at 400 its 90+% and the lower skill player basically needs to get lucky) What does this mean? This means that more than likely, bungie will start to choose players within +/-200 skill rating of you, and use the first pick more than +/-100 to set the upper or lower bounds. EX: if you are 612 skill, and bungie starts picking players: 612 (you) 580 440 Bounds set at 440/640 (200 max skill variance) The remaining players would have to be in these bounds. So how does that affect outliers? A 800 skill player (very high skill) would only be able to match as low as 600 skill theoretically, and more likely would have bounds for a lobby set at 700-900 on average. The same can be said for -800 skill players but with negative values. That means that OPTIMALLY if an outlier player is the upper most bound of their lobby, (I.E. 800 player matching as low as 600) they will have access to MAYBE 5% of the playerbase. Currently, connection quality is marginal at best with access to 100% of the playerbase. So with a 20x reduction in pool size, outlier players (new lights and sweats alike) are more than likely going to experience horrible connection quality and long matchmaking times. Which seems to me like it will harm the New light experience. New lights will go from being fodderized by better players, To waiting 10 minutes in queue for a laggy match that will make them wonder if the game launched in 2004 and died in 2014. Personally I believe that for the sake of growing the playerbase, new players can rationalize away getting stomped by saying "i just need to improve" But new players cant rationalize away "wow I waited 10 minutes in queue for a lobby where everybody teleports? Did I accidentally queue up Black ops on my xbox 360? This game is dead"

  • As someone who's roughly 900sr on pc according to Bungie I'm suppose to wait 10+ minutes or not play as theirs roughly what 100 or so of us and what's the odds of us being on at the same time and if they will still play.... Good thing Kings Fall is free I'll just go back to raid farming I guess. Since Bungie hates good pvp players.

  • I enjoy the movement and weapons along with farming 1kds with egos. I'm sorry I don't wanna robot walk in a "good shooter game".

  • Sorry but new players can't just rationalize away getting stomped by saying "I just need to improve". How can they improve if they are being killed in no time in a game? Not much to learn from that. The only way to learn is to get to play normal games against players in your skill level and slowly improve. You are basically asking lower level players to constantly sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the game. No one will do that

  • Who says they can’t? Many of us did exactly that

You know how players can not be the outlier when it comes to their skill bracket? They can play PVP a bit more often and perform better. You said it yourself. Where they are could lead to longer waits because they need to pull other players just as bad as they are. This is bungie's way of trying to meet people halfway and if players are unwilling to engage with the system, then this is the expectation that they should have. There is no reason for people to complain... Although they're going to complain anyway..

  • And for good players the solution is what? Play less often and worse when you do?

  • Looks like you play very little as it is.

  • I have a total of 250k pvp kills between accounts But you are right. I stopped because Bungie has taken the game in a horrible direction

  • If you don't like the direction bugie is making then don't play the game.

  • Why do you have multiple accounts? And exactly which directional turn from bungie made you quit?

  • And actually, in total I have 13 or 14 accounts because back when comp was 4v4 I used to do double and triple carries to fabled every season on Alt accounts with Ballyhoo, Aachen and Nox Reeve II lol For a very short time before that I did paid recovs until I realized how bad for the game that was. Instead I decided to do free carries and teach. (Actually free because I don’t stream and didn’t use followers for gain) Even wrote PDFs to give to players for them to remember basic tips that would help them: Had flash cards written that taught the basics of each map in comp rotation and how to win on it more often than not.

  • I quit and deleted all characters on this account shortly after beyond light because of the direction stasis was going Came back 6 months later with a fresh account because I didn’t want to regrind from zero with my lobby balancing/MM (when the game expects you to hard carry but you only have blues it sucks lol) Then with the slide change I started to play less, AE change I almost quit completely And now I’ve deleted characters on my other account entirely

  • You know what I would say? I think players need to run their own race. You need to understand what that means. You're going to go and play pvp, win or lose, hopefully you understand mistakes that you've made and improve. If you constantly compare yourself to higher skilled players, it's going to drive you mad. All you need to do is realize some of the things that you do, work on them and experiment. Have fun doing so at the same time. Make it a goal for yourself. I feel like people are on this forum and forget that this is a game and just want to bask in the negativity. Don't worry about what higher players are doing until you reach that Pinnacle point. Tommy no thumbs doesn't need to know meta, frame data, map positioning just yet. What they can work on are basics and build off little by little until they reach a point where they could concern themselves with more competitive play.

  • My frame of reference is as somebody who has been top 200 in the world in rumble, elim and survival at different points in destiny and has since basically quit the game because bungie has taken it in a direction that is pretty poor. Overall between accounts I have about 250k pvp kills and an overall KD average around a 2.0 Ive never reached the TRUE pinnacle up with tourney caliber players, but Ive done enough to know the effects of sbmm the last time it was around. This time will likely be no different.

  • Oh I'm not even talking about that. I completely agree that nothing much is going to change. I even anticipate the same thing that happened the last two times we swapped out sbmm. Regardless of what's implemented, the facts are the same. Players need to just focus on themselves and run their own race. If you ask me I really think they did PVP completely wrong. I miss the days where we just had run and gun arenas and we just picked up weapons all on the floor. I miss having options where I could fudge the rules and do things as crazy like laser tag or snipers only. I don't even like loot based PVP at all. People generally get the shiny thing and then leave because they have already achieved their goal. All loot should be moved to PVE and players should just play PVP for the sheer enjoyment of it.

  • Destiny private matches not having the depth of Halo private matches is actually such a shame. 300% movement speed infinite ammo snipers only lets goooooo

How fng great would it be if we had those rule sets? The hell with what everybody else is complaining about. I could go play paintball, real capture the flag, vehicle warfare. That's what PvP is all about.
