Great story/themed season marred by rigid/unforgiving RNG.

The quickest way to significantly reduce my play time is to make the game feel unrewarding. This is my issue with the game at the moment. I love the story and theme of this season. I loved returning to the Leviathan, what’s happening with Calus, seeing Zavala’s past, and scorching enemies into ignition for the explosions. However, I don’t want to play because of how unrewarding things are right now. There seems to have been a hard return to rigid/unforgiving RNG. Out of my first 5 weeks of running Duality, 4 of my first time completions awarded two pairs of boots for the final encounter. I get armor significantly more than weapons from this dungeon. I didn’t see my first Calus drop until week 3. I haven’t had the new Vanguard bow drop with Incandescent even once. The playlist exclusive weapons have very large perk pools. Enough so that they should be a guaranteed completion drop. I never actually got the roll I wanted on Royal Entry. How long ago was that released? That shouldn’t happen. Getting world drop rolls you want is even worse. I still don’t have the Ogma roll I want so I have no real hope for getting any future world drop rolls I want at the moment. The focusing costs have become overwhelming. Was it intended for us to use them more than barely a handful of times each week? Or even each season? I blew through over 13k shards and got next to nothing I was going for. And we’re going to get more focusing sources? How is anyone that’s not a steamer supposed to effectively use them? In a loot game, the loot system should not exist in a way in which the player never gets the drop they want before it is replaced by something better. That’s a fundamentally flawed and unrewarding system. Nearly everything should be reasonably farmable upon release, or even focusable for a reasonable cost.

  • This season had the bones of a great idea just very much poorly executed. The playlist generic matchmade activity of the season got old. I loved the idea of a narrative being told on an actual location where there is exploration and activities to find naturally like how the game was originally made out to be. Story beats are really good. Solar 3.0 and build crafting has been amazing. I love having separate builds hand crafted to my style in void, solar, stasis, and pvp. Very excited to see what arc brings. That's the nice things I have to say about it. Time for the bad grab a drink it's lengthy. The bad.... Everything else. Location is nothing more than a stripped down location we had taken from us in the first place. One singular public event for the most part other than the random bosses you had to find I kind of liked that but after the triumphs were done for it they served me no purpose. *we will revisit this in a moment* Absolutely abysmal loot system with this essence crap. Red frames being nearly impossible to find. Other than the story beats and us being forced to run the minimal activities to the ground, a not so great IB rework and an ok PvP map there was nothing and I mean nothing from this season that made me go wow. More please! The dungeon was a separate cost and now after paying for it and the season I think this is a model that is utter garbage. If the Dungeon had been in the season I would at least give it a passing grade in the C range. So I can shake my fist at this and cry about it or I can leave some feedback on what I would like to see built from this. 1. YES NEW PATROL ZONES AND I MEAN NEW!!!! There are several planets available to us that have so much potential to really show more of the world. It doesn't have to be a massive exploration zone like the Throne World but give us something new to discover and explore. Stop selling us crap we paid for already give us a NEW place to play. 2. The story beats. Keep this up. The final mission (SPOILER SKIP THIS PART NOW if you are behind) was really cool man. Fighting alongside Caital was badass even though it was short. Would love to see more NPC interactions and fights and truly make this a sci-fi epic. But coming from D1 Alpha testing to now. I can not at all complain about the story. But let's keep it up. 3. Scrap the dungeon pass crap. The dungeons need to be included in the season passes. The season this time around was so bare bones it's BS they stripped the dungeon off it to make yet another buck. Toothpaste out of the tube on this one I think but damn I really wish they didn't do this. 4. 1 new strike and 1 new PVP map. I am no dev but I think it is insane to me the lack of love PVP has had in the last like 1000 days before this new map dropped and I think other than WQ the last new strike was proving ground when it came to seasons? I feel like 1 of each would do wonders. 5. The loot system. Something has to give. Make the red frames 3 to unlock a pattern instead of 5. I have nearly maxed that stupid crown out twice grinding for red frames and have only ONE weapon pattern. Totally discouraging and just not fun. Remember those hidden bosses? Why not make those a way to boost our odds on weapons along with OTHER activities in the patrol zone so we aren't bashing our skulls in doing the same thing over and over and over again. Hell give us a master lost sector in the new patrol zone with increased odds. Something. Anything other than run x event 500 times. Crank he difficulty if you must make it a challenge. Monotony is so much worse than something being difficult. 6. Hang in there almost done. Respect our time. A current containment gives like what? 9 Essence yet it costs like 27 to focus a weapon? So we get maybe one additional roll per hour and pray it is a red box. Never is. I don't think I have ever had one focused engram drop a red frame. Ever. Hours of containments days even for nothing. It's not rewarding. Make. The. Game. Rewarding. 7. Gambit either cut it out the game or add maps and modes to it. The way it is now sucks. I for one could see it go and I wouldn't feel bad at all but whatever. That mode is more stale than 6 month old bagel. TLDR Version - New patrol areas, good story beats, better ways to acquire desirable loot, new strike, new pvp map, gambit cut out or new maps, and bring back the dungeons in to the season. That would make for a really strong seasonal model. If that isn't possible then I'm good with just doing 6 month or yearly releases for this game. Because this season is immensely disappointing in so many ways.
