Does Calus secretly want us to win (possible spoilers)

So after completing this week's quest, Eris tells us that Calus his being forced to act this way. If you find and listen to the Calus bot in this week's mission. Rather than trying to stall or convince us to join him, he seem more concerned that we are wasting time and not rushing to help Caiatl. Together these 2 things make me think that deep down Calus does not agree with the Witness, and the only part of him able to resist the Witnesses control is his love for Caiatl. This would explain why Calus's nightmare was Caiatl and why he repressed his memory's of her, because she is his weakness in the eyes of the Witness. This would also explain why Calus tried so hard to lure Caiatl to him. Sure he claimed its to corrupt her but he also wants us to save her. Side note: I'd also like to point out that the events of this season start to fill in blanks and possibly lead to the events that we saw in the dark future lore book. In it we saw Mara Sov in control of the Leviathan and leading cabal forces. So it's possible the point of this season is Calus wants us to have the leviathan as it's the only ship large enough to fairy all humans, cabal, and fallen off earth once the Witness arrives in lightfall. It's also capable of interstellar travel, which the humans lack and our allies probably aren't able to due to lack of resources.

Been thinking this too. Leviathan devours things right? What if he's trying to establish a link with the Pyramid so he can vacuum up all the nightmares, concluding Shadowkeeps premise? Maybe even trying to weaponize all the nightmare energy into a weapon against the Black Fleet which is where the Darkness subclasses in Lightfall come into play or just send the Leviathan into the Black Fleet like a bomb. Remember what his Scribe Amsot said? Calus merged with darkness and fights to save us all. So your theory is possible.

Everything that's happening is different from the dark future lore book.. starting with Elsie being honest with Ana about everything revolving around clovis the exos etc etc I personally don't see anything from the dark future lore tab playing out at the moment. Calus has been in love with the darkness since the beginning of d2.. I feel his nightmare with caital is due to him not expecting her to be part of the coup that exiled him. He's a full fledged disciple & he spent so much time trying to sway the guardian to his cause. He wanted us to be one of his shadows. Honestly I think now would be a good time to read over those chronichon entries from the season of opulence. Might be some interesting things that could possibly link up with this season. It's been awhile since I've read them.

Humans are capable of interstellar travel. Tell me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the drifter go to another star system and find those light suppressing animals.

      • I've been wondering if the rituals we've been doing might actually be what calus or the darkness wants to happen. We've seen season after season that the vanguard is fairly gullible- its entirely possible we are being played.

No, Calus has always been a -blam!- for the darkness, he never wanted us to win, not back in Vanilla when we first met him, or now I do think he doesn't like his position right now though, he wanted to be the one pulling the deeps strings, not a servant to another

        • Calus's end game has always been to find a way to survive the coming storm. He might've decided that becoming a disciple of the Witness was the only way to do that. As far as everything else though, it's hard to say. I think that Calus is on Calus's side, and whether he helps us or hinders us is always for his own benefit.

        • In a scanning patrol, Calus specifically mentions that Caiatl will see things his way eventually. While he's delusional, he still cares about his daughter and wants her on his side.

        • He is still a father, and I know deep inside, he wants for Caitl to succeed. And to do that, she must overcome his memory. And even in the sickest of ways, he shows this. He is challenging her. This is Caitl's battle, not ours.

            • I personally think Dark Future was half assed by Bungie, before they even decided who or what the Witness is, so I would take that lore with a grain of salt, a big grain too.

              • I think Calus is helping us indirectly. The main characters facing their demons this season will no doubt be pivotal in Lightfall. The better state of mind they are in when the Witness shows up will make it that much harder for the Witness to manipulate them and try to divide us. Calus isn’t an outright antagonist this season he literally just chats with us through the patrols and while he taunts us during Containment’s he doesn’t really seem to be actively attempting to stop us.

                • I don't think he wants us to win. He's just enjoying us trying to stop what he thinks is coming. When we met him the first time, he wanted us to join him and win so to speak cause he thought we could stop what he saw. After the witness took him this time and converted him by giving him what he wanted, all that changed. He's happy where he's at and while he still wants us to join him, it's more so cause he's grown to like us, not to stop the whatever that's coming. Also, he didn't want us to rush to save her. He found it funny we looked for, then stopped and talked with him instead of just saving the day. He was being sarcastic lol. Another thing, at this point he's treating our missions like a fav show of his: he just enjoys watching us/things we do. I do think eris is doing a lil too much with the darkness and the dark future might come true.

                • Could be interesting. I don't think that the events leading into Lightfall and finale shape aren't going to exactly line up with Dark Future. It's pretty clear that that timeline has been avoided. Doesn't mean some things from it can't happen though. Only thing I don't want to see happen is Eris turning evil. I feel like at this point Bungie is just trying to bait us into thinking it's gonna happen then just have it not happen.
