• From a company that abuses their workers and keeps most people on temp. contracts for years on end without benefits so they can fire them at will without severance. They're definitely awesome.

 • People in the game are -blam!-holes. Bungo makes a game that is infuriating to play, and then hides when their angry players want to complain about it. 1 mil active out of 23ish million registered. That means 22 out of every 23 D2 players have quit the game. Gonna go up, cuz all their game design decisions benefit streamers and sweats, and NOBODY else.

PvPs current matchmaking is -blam!- broken, and it's legitimately because Bungie catered to to the 1% high skilled players and streamers making the mode terrible for anyone average or low-skilled. https://twitter.com/A_dmg04/status/1514060278173888514
Hey, just to keep the record straight: We literally turned off skill based matchmaking in the majority of Crucible playlists multiple years ago. This was thanks to feedback from high-skill players. We now have more negative sentiment around matchmaking than ever before.
Like, gee, thanks, I can do control, get stomped 24/7 just to inflate the ego of some sweat living in his mums basement. No thanks. I'll stick to playing Comp, where the matchmaking is WAY better, or not play destiny at all. The best part is that they aren't doing anything to address it, or changing it because then streamers are gonna whine. -blam!- the rest of the playerbase, the top 10% are gonna need their cannon-fodder and that's final.

It's off by less than 10% but it's the numbers I usually use lol. And I saw that tweet from dmg and it really felt like it justified all the trash talk I've been giving to PvP mains for the last 3 years. I went so petty as to watch a True Vanguard video and the looked up each player on Destiny Tracker. Maybe one in ten was in the top 50% of players. Most were bottom feeding new lights. His b roll is literally him bullying low skill or new players and then everybody thinks he's good. The streamer community is so awful and dmg literally said, as you posted, that they built PvP that way on purpose. That's why nobody likes crucible lol

 • Also why nobody likes DMG and his constant stream of tweets about all the cool loot he got carried to because of manipulative matchmaking.

Concurrent player numbers have remained stable for years. You can’t blame the game for the people on here being super toxic. They’re a minority of the players. The player base on other platforms is far less toxic.

When your game is actually good, people come back. With destiny 2, people don't come back 95% abandonment rate is insane. That's not normal.

Whether you’re purposely misunderstanding or not, I don’t know. The total number of registered players is completely different from concurrent player numbers and daily player numbers. Fortnite has 350 million registered accounts and it peaks around 24 million log on daily. Final fantasy XIV has 35.8 million registered players and daily player count of 3.4 million. Pokémon is harder to specify, but the number of people that have played a Pokémon game is significantly higher than the number of daily players. You’ll find the same pattern of daily players being significantly lower than the total registered users in every single popular game. It really isn’t a hard concept to grasp.

Pokemon Go and FFXIV player counts are going up. That's called "retention". I know that's an alien concept to a Destiny 2 player, but it is possible to bring in new and returning players while also keeping existing players. Also, daily stats don't meant anything unless you're a stockholder look at the monthly unique player stats for those games. It is significantly higher than D2.

 • You are correct dude, any available player numbers for the last 18 months show a steady decline of active players month on month. The only time there is a spike is around a major content drop. Damn, all these dudes gotta do is look at the steam numbers over that time. It ain't pretty.

 • Yeah... about that, it's a lot more common than people in this thread are trying to make it out to be Especially with long running games Some of them bounce back, but that's more the exception than the rule. When a game finds it's niche, people try it out, decide it isn't for them, and leave. Most of the games you go check have massive dropoffs in player numbers, and for some it's because it's a bad game, but for most it's just because people try it and decide it's not a game they care for. Destiny has a strong, consistent playerbase that continues to care for the game. Were that not true people wouldn't keep coming to these forums to complain about it because the game wouldn't keep going anymore.

 • It more resembles a long slow decline, but I'll agree there is definitely a strong constant core player base. I think they are in this game to the end and bungie are happy with those numbers.

 • Right? When you look at multiple sources, it all corroborates. People are leaving the game and not coming back. Some only do for content drops and then disappear just quickly. The dead time between content drops is getting worse and worse.

There is no increase any more significant that the in increase other games get during expansion releases. Pokémon go has dropped players since it’s release. Not sure what makes you think they’re going up. It really isn’t a complicated concept to grasp.

FF14 had it's highest population in years back in January and February. Destiny 2, by contrast, is at about half of it's population from this time last year with a bump in the witch queen launch month. This game doesn't retain players and our player base doesn't grow like some other games, which was my original response. Glad we looped back around to it

Final fantasy has seen a massive player drop according to your logic. Over 90% of its players have left it. When you apply the same things you’ve said about Destiny’s player numbers to other games, you see the same thing. Yet you’re still not getting it? Yikes…
