Such a waste. They brought Mars out of the DCV just to do nothing with it. This Season could have been the perfect chance to bring Escalation Protocol back into the game.

I miss EP. The one activity that I actually enjoyed mindlessly playing for hours with no real objective in mind. Loved super spamming the boss phase and all the orbs everyone generated. Genuinely love EP.

I feel the same way, and even though I'm a huge fan of the Throne World, it honestly it doesn't make sense to me to bring an entire planet back and not have any of the old areas accessible, unless there was a valid reason not to do so in-game.

Edited by KannibalKlown: 3/3/2022 7:18:18 PMThey’re hitting the limits of their game engine. They’ve said that’s why they have to remove stuff before adding stuff. Their destiny 2 engine is a slightly modified version of their destiny 1 engine. Which is 7+ years old at release already and built for the old Xbox 360. It isn’t about download size. But the game is now too big for their editing tools and compilers to handle effectively. So before adding anything big, they have to first subtract. So this isn’t going to change unless they switch to a new engine, which means they’d have to start making everything from scratch again. Or somehow upgrade their current engine’s core architecture greatly enough to bypass its limits, which is a real stretch.

It’s not really brought out of the DCV. The previous Mars areas aren’t accessible or used in any way. Lore wise Mars is back, but what we have are all new parts of Mars.
-
They aren’t at all, it’s literally the old Mara patrol zone from Destiny 1. The old cabal strongholds near Rubicon. Don’t forget our lord and saviors the siege dancers.
-
Where is that? The enclave and first Campaign mission aren’t areas from D1.
-
From the Vox mission.
-
Oh shoot, I forgot about that mission. I haven’t tried it yet, as I want to get closer to the power lvl of the mission. …still, I guess D1 content could be considered “in the DCV”, but it’s not like it was ever in D2, removed, and then brought back. Did we all consider Gjallarhorn as coming out of the DCV? Maybe VOG was, so I dunno. Just doesn’t seem the same as when Bungie removed PvP maps and then brought them back. It’s not like D1 assets can just be a basic copy and paste into D2. Even some Y1 D2 assets needed to be redone for their engine update/overhaul. So the only time saved from using a D1 area for a new mission is not having to draw a new map layout. So really this is more likely done to be a nostalgia trip for D1 vets. Which games sometimes do in sequels, take you to a location from a previous game for a nostalgia/Easter egg kind of thing.

Yikes- the salt fest on these forums of people complaining about reused content if they brought back escalation protocol would be insane. “Wahhh! Classic Bungo! Selling cut content back to us because bungo bad!”
-
I would be mad if it was brought back and resold to us in its former state, if they added the new mechanics to ep with ep specific weapons gear, added a couple of other minor activities, maybe 1 or 2 added story missions with ana or warmind esque, i would pay $10-15 for that, not more than that bc its essentially the same zone just a couple new mechanics and and stuff so it shouldnt be charged as a full expansion or they could add it to the wq after the raid, who knows?

I feel people get more upset if it's D1 content. While this may have been Activision's decision, they went out of their way to make a sequel. D1 was going strong during year 3. All they had to do was bring the game to PC, and they could have kept it going. It's like everyone has accepted D1 is done, but whenever anything from D1 is brought back, it makes people feel like Bungie is just not putting in the effort to make new content.
-
Eh. I would say people get mad regardless, considering how some were reacting to the fact that mars was returning a few months ago.
-
True. This is the internet.
-
Wait a minute. They brought it back but left out EP?
-
No, we just have the Enclave and the area in the Vox mission. I'm saying that if Bungie brought back Mars' proper Patrol Destination, they could have brought Escalation Protocol back.

Exactly. 100% this.
