On fifth attempt and I’m only getting purples and shards. Can we get a definition of “Common” drop?

Wanna read something f'ed up? 2-3 weeks ago I was grinding my 2 alt characters that I neglected for a couple years at least and was experiencing the same crap.....but I did an override today and guess what? Got an exotic piece of armor, did a battlegrounds yesterday and if you guessed that I got some other exotic armor, then you are correct. Makes no sense to me

Like I wouldn’t care as much but common should be fairly fast. Even if I’m getting exotic drops I already have, That’s the name of the RNG game. But if common means less than a 3% chance of drop you have better odds to get an exotic weapon from the raid like 1k eyes of tomorrow.

Yeah, Bungie said this game is for hardcore players. So common might not be the same meaning.
