I farmed for months on it and only got it recently.
My work around for RNG is to only play on the weekends. It actually really works. The less you play the better loot you get.
But hopefully you get the shell the next Challenge you do

you don't get better loot the less you play. that would be demented. what game that wants people to invest as much time as possible would reward you for playing less? that makes no sense. however, your point about weekends does seem to check out because all my best rolls and drops have occurred on weekends

I play rarely and get exotics and surprise rolls all the time. Then I come here and read posts from folks who never leave the game alone and complain constantly about the drop rate. There's something to it.

i wouldn't read that much into it. you could just be uncommonly lucky which is possible given that with rng anything is possible. like 4th mark exotic ship that is meant to drop from coup de grace could drop on your first ever run thru or never. it isn't in any way affected by the number of times you run it. i think i finally got it on my 40th run. now that would seem to go against the point i was trying to make. but i can assure you from sessions where ive played many hours to sessions where ive played 1-2 i always get more frequent drops in the longer sessions. since the rng chance of a particular roll is calculated per drop, not as a cumulative, it stands to reason that the more drops you get = more rng rolls = more chance of something good.

You can choose to believe to it or not but it's real as rain. The more you play the faster you burn through these allowances, the less you play the more you have built up. I get exotics to drop regularly, I get decent rolls to drop regularly, while the guys I play with (who never put the controller down) complain about it. I have a buddy who started playing a few months ago, his 'catch up' mechanic for drops was on overdrive as he quickly caught up on exotics and decent armor stats and weapon rolls. It's a thing, try it. Edit- maybe you remember how they secretly throttled back XP a couple years ago after so much gain? Once you're hooked on the hamster wheel the incentives dry up. If you're not hooked they keep dropping the bait.
