I just gotta say, that with any change, bungo has been pretty good about making improvements where they can. Read from someone that the whole masterwork giving orbs thing actually takes the most memory on guns. This change could actively be for the better of weapon crafting.
It's also not like we can't generate orbs of power or charged with light from different sources. Elemental Wells could be very good now including other charge with light mods, like specific weapon rapidkills. Taking charge was a good but meh mod and I'm fairly certain hands on will be here next season, PLUS, with us being able to unlock all the artifact mods, builds should be flexible.
I think what we should be asking for is more energy slots in armor, up to say 12 as a good number. Let's more creative influence on builds and less stress.

I think that with the many mods that use orbs of light you will find the cost of inserting them will dramatically go up in WQ. Super regeneration has already been hit hard with their nerfs to exotics, kills, forced levels and now orbs. A space magic game without space magic… sounds like D2 on launch but worse.
