It's circumstantial, I would think. But my mindset is below, when playing with unknowns. (Solo)
Speedrunners in PvE Playlists
I'll run with them. Generally makes things go quicker. They usually don't die if they're high leveled.
Exception - Low level/New Light in the Fireteam, I'll stick with them, instead.
Revives in Strikes and PvE Playlists
I'll push to revive everyone when I can.
Exception - the Guardian does not wait for me to revive them when I'm running their way. The Guardian has made their choice to be a lone wolf, at that rate.
Gambit
Revive teammates when I can.
Exception - INVADER INBOUND. HUNT EM!
Crucible
Pick a teammate (or a small stack if you have one on your team) and stick to em like glue, if their playstyle matches yours. But give them space, to disengage and not run into you. It's generally hit or miss.
Everything else usually requires communication via chat, so there isn't much else to cover. Those are my "Guardian Guidelines", so to speak. Passive? Yeah, pretty much.
If one isn't cooperative then by nature one tends to be competitive. But there's a time and place for both. Care to guess which side is favored more often than not? Lol
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
