Unless your a new light you should understand why the DCV was implemented by now. I doubt that any one likes the DCV but without it D2 either stops getting new content or it stops working all together. Well they could do have made D3 instead.

This of course happening right when they made changes to their game engine that required them to go back and update everything to be compatible lol. I know a lot of you are gullable bungie shills but this isn't hard to figure out. All the stuff was removed because they didn't feel like updating it. They were too lazy/cheap to have people update all this content we paid for. They would rather remove it n make up that comical excuse. Now that they got away with it, they are continuing to remove stuff so when they make future changes they don't have to update as much yet again. This is nothing but bungie not respecting the paying customers. They did the same with transmog and will most likely be a repeat with gun crafting.

I’m certainly not defending Bungie & their communication about the DCV and reasons has been frankly amateur! Part of the reason for the DCV is Bungie coding error That the code is so messed up/muddled that they took things out (their words) to clean up & rebuild that content The common theory about the Destiny Content Vault was that Bungie mainly was doing it to start “saving space” as the game was simply getting too big from a hard drive perspective, and it also allowed them to do things like rebuild old Destiny 1 assets for “easier” content releases (ie. the Cosmodrome returning this year). But according to Aztecross, it’s more complicated than that. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eNQRMwVbk_g
He talks about an eight hour meeting with content creators that Luke Smith had last fall talking about both the content vault and a potential Destiny 3, and while this sounds like something he may not technically be able to talk about (better check that NDA), the info’s out there now. Luke Smith explained to the group the idea that Destiny was full of so many bugs and so hard to develop for because it essentially needed to be rebuilt. And that the purpose of the content vault isn’t just about saving hard drive space, it’s that these planets and activities are being rotated out of the game in order to be “rebuilt” in a way that suggests a new process or new engine, in order to be returned to the game later in a “better” form. One question Smith posed to the group was “well why do you actually want a Destiny 3?” and the group listed off a bunch of things like more RPG aspects and new, larger areas, and he said all that stuff would be possible if they just “refreshed” Destiny 2 in this planned way with content vault in and out rotation. And that’s why we have at least three more years of Destiny 2 ahead of us with three expansions already listed.
Source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2020/08/26/aztecross-reveals-the-actual-reason-destiny-2s-content-vault-exists/

  • That makes perfect sense and even fills some gaps in my understanding of things. Taking Cross's info with a grain of salt of course. "Bungie & their communication about the DCV and reasons has been frankly amateur!" Dude preach. I feel like this ALL could be cleared up with a well written blog.

  • You are hilarious if you think we will ever see any of the old raids n such brought back. Updating the lighting in 2 pvp maps is apparently such a huge task for them that it's being made a huge deal about and included as a selling point for witch queen lol. You think they will ever bring the other vaulted stuff back lololol.

Are you always incapable of reading comprehension? Or do you just leave it for the Destiny forums ? I didn’t say they were gonna bring back the content, the post was just highlighting their (Bungie’s) reasons (as explained in the initial post/source link/video) And just from the recent 30th anniversary patches & the last two updates, that’s proof that any new game code does weird shite to the old systems (Gambit crashing on multiple platforms etc) Ever heard of ”don’t shoot the messenger” I’ve been one of Bungie’s biggest critics for how they’ve applied themselves & avoided the blatantly obvious errors & issues throughout the D2 vanilla all the way to sunsetting/DCV & the latest abilities nerf patch (and all that political/social guff in between) I’m far from being a shill/BDF (Heck, I’m usually banned from here for a month or three 😆)

  • D3 is obviously being drip fed to us at this point. Would've much preferred Bungie take some time off of D2 content and fully bake a D3.

  • I would have preferred a D3 myself, even if its only for game preservation. Sequels don't normally go great for live service games though, D2 Y1 works as an example of this. That would also mean leaving the majority D2 behind when the next game drops. I don't mind rebuilding my character from the ground up and starting over. However I think I'm in the minority in this case.

  • Good, cause it should have ended before it came to this stupid DCV garbage. Now anyone picking up the game will never know or experience the vanilla story. They won’t experience Cayde’s death at the hands of Uldren, and they eventually will not even know Uldren’s redemption arc. The DCV was a garbage decision. I will stand by that.

  • Yeah, and let's not forget who made the choice not to make a D3.

  • Warframe gets all kind of content from your usual ground combat to spaceship battle, still able to reduce game size and improve performance without taking away any content

  • Warframe also has a vaulting system in place for gear acquisition, unless its been changed, it works a lot like the DCV just not for the same type content. DE did remove Warframe's raids and some other content. Sorry I only played Warframe for so long and don't follow any news from then any more. If any of this has changed let me know.

  • There's still an alternative for vaulted gears, with less polarity and no gold bling for your fashion so it's not fully vaulted and now there prime resurgence to get the relics of vaulted gears directly instead of random drop. Raids were removed because it keeps breaking and new bugs appear on every fix, low amount of players makes DE chose to shelve them, resources on that can be used for other part, not because the game gets too big or hard to develop content. Look at where we are now, you have open world, you have mech to ride and spaceship battle and DE is still able to cut down the game size from 40 GB to 25 GB

  • Sounds like there making some good moves with their vaulting. If DE is pulling it off how it sounds other dev's need to take note. "Raids were removed because it keeps breaking and new bugs appear on every fix, low amount of players makes DE chose to shelve them, resources on that can be used for other part" That's pretty close to the DCV but on a much different scale. DE's vault has been around longer and actually does content in content out to some extent. So far with Bungie its been all content in and nothing has really been released form the vault. Bungie's vault seems to be on a 3 year rotation at the moment so here's hoping they can make it work. I don't now enough about game development in general, let alone the design and scope behind Warframe/Destiny to now how DE does it and Bungie can't. It flat might now be possible with how Destiny's engine was designed foundationally. This is why I don't like comparing 2 separate games directly when I can avoid it, there's just to much to take into account.

  • DE shelves raid and gives eidolon hunts as replacement, what did bungie give to replace things they vaulted like old raids, escalation protocol, black armory and me-blam!-? Most games barely branch to other aspects like Warframe does, playing safe and don't want to risk of getting bugs.

  • All because THEY didn’t build or invest in their game properly. And only we suffer for it. That is the issue. They are very quick to make their problems our problems. But as customers they shouldn’t be.

  • We play a live service game maintained by Bungie. If there's a Destiny problem it's all of out problem, Bungie is responsible for the fix. Even if Desting was perfectly built in 2017 you can only add so much in. The game got full.

  • Many other games from much smaller studios keep all their content through engine updates. Bungie is lazy and knows no matter how badly they sht on the players there will be shills parroting their bs reasoning defending them.

  • Take a look at wow for example 16 years of content and not one thing has been removed except for tcg mounts , but even that is in the black market.

  • I didn't realize this was the WOW forums my mistake. WOW is not Destiny. If you haven't noticed they are VERY different games. Also last I checked my OG Xbox one (which D2 is supported on) probably isn't gonna handle any game with 16 years worth of add-ons no matter how well optimized the game is.

  • You can only add so much while not being focused on updating your game to add more in the future. They can certainly make the game almost anything they want. But as they have frequently said “ making content is hard “ and the results show they don’t exactly feel like it. Whenever Bungie says something about limitations these days I always wonder… Is that something Activision would have allowed to be an excuse. Because knock them all you want, but activision isnt afraid to spend money to make money. Bungie right now is this super odd AAA dev but on a budget and makes their players absorb all the drawbacks of them not being willing to invest in their game too much financially.

  • Yeah Bungie should have just pushed an update that let them add more.
