Weapons have a memory limit. It was stated by Chris Proctor that alot of the memory is taken up by Orb Generation. Moving it to a mod on armor can free up room to add other perks to weapons. My only issue with the information is drip feeding. Ik the weapon system is getting reworked but this drip feeding causes misunderstanding and confusion.

  • Oh so now we can have guns with more useless perks in the pool… can’t wait

  • That’s not the reason they did it. It breaks powerful builds and makes older, better rolled stat armor less desirable then the new three slot artifice armor. Bungie has said they don’t like making challenging content that requires more effort then they are used to. They said this Reckoning. Of all things. So if that’s more then they want to do…this nerf train was something they’ve been wanting to do for some time. I mean look at the reasoning. Because some exotics don’t generate orbs we are going to smash builds and inherently limit the amount of orbs you can make. For the sake of a handful of guns? Dude, if they are actually sincere. Then they are just 100% clueless. Sure it might be better then intentional spitefulness but it’s still not acceptable.

  • Dude look at the reasoning further. “ We don’t want you to spend/waste your hard earned mats just so your weapons will make orbs with our limited crafting system. So we are making sure every mat you’ve poured into them over the years is now a waste instead “. How did that statement actually pass a proof read from a logic standpoint? Who doesn’t think that is the dumbest thing they have ever heard?

  • I mean they had the nerve to act like it wasn’t a big deal and that somehow some people were asking for it. A major change that breaks builds and not a peep about it. While they try to push build craft as something to aspire to. I think the years of bilking us and getting paid has made them very comfortable feeding us obvious bull that they don’t really try anymore.

  • I'm not fooled by that excuse and neither should you. if memory was really the issue, they could have moved it to the armor slot without restrictions. The helmet orb mods is element specific. This is a move to nerf player power. Don't believe Bungie's BS

  • Honestly I believe it just because this exact thing was stated in the giant Witch Queen leak pastebin.

  • Ah yes, because you know so much coding and how C++ works. Please elaborate then on how it work since you seem to have the knowledge of it and give a better suggestion. Its contributes so much to conversation.

  • Actually I do, although I haven't done C++ in years. My point was if the reason for this change is to free up memory, they would have replaced it with an armor perk of similar functionality and ease of use, ie. a mod that works for all weapon. The fact that they've gone with the current restricted system, tells me its an outright nerf. It's common sense 101

  • And its not that real? Maybe CwL builds but you can just use something else to become Charged. Not every change are as bad as it looks. Look at the slide "nerf" as an example.

  • Taking charge was the most reliable way to become charged in endgame content, but it's not CWL builds I'm worried about. It's super regeneration.

  • Simple solution for that. Use your primary weapon. You get alot of super now from just using weapons now, not even the orbs. My Fatebringer with Firefly and Thresh has worked wonders ever since they changed the super regen.

  • It just makes me wonder how they’re running into a memory issue. How large are the weapons load on memory? and if it’s that big an issue then it feels like they’re just passing the buck. Is it because of launch Xbox and PS4 models they’re trying to continue to support? Very very low end PCs? Is it because the engine is so old and inefficient that even with more powerful hardware we’ve outgrown what the engine can even allow? If the former maybe the solution is not to scale back weapons, but scale back how much inventory low end hardware can see on a screen or have access to. People on old hardware just don’t get to have as much inventory as the rest of us. Or maybe like Rise if Iron before, the next expansion with all its system updates just won’t be available on OG and older hardware. But yeah, the way Bungie has been doling out this information has been absolutely a failure. They probably should have just waited until they were willing to tell us everything rather than try to disguise it as good news.

  • The engine just got upgraded last year so I don't think thats the issue anymore. Its probably old gen holding up. However, with PS5s and Xbox Series consoles still being hard to come by for many, they can't drop last gen quite yet. My guess is when Final Shape drops, that is where Old Gen will be cut.

This is like version 3 I think? Destiny 1 and 2 ran on the the Tiger Engine Bungie built, which was basically a Zombie Blam! Engine that Halo ran on til Reach. I'm not the smartest on Coding, I only know basics but here is video from 2015 a Bungie Engineer Presented. https://youtu.be/UU92a5pKV6k Its almost an hour long but explains it much better than I could

  • I really hope so. At this point it is like if D2 still has to support the Xbox 360/PS3 well into Forsaken.

  • Sounds like just poor coding, we are all aware that the game has bad coding maybe try clearing up some of the un-needed code. Not for a second will I believe that there isn’t some code that can be fixed that will clear up alot of memory (remember this is a game that had a bug during a raid that in Shuro Chi if you wore a specific emblem you took no damage from her plates how the code is connected is beyond anything i can understand)

  • If the loss of orbs meant some kind of extra perk you got from masterworking, similar to how you leveled weapons in d1, then honestly I’d be okay with the change. Especially if the orb mod was a low cost. Problem is, like you said, bungie hasn’t told us any of this and is drip feeding the info. Why they chose to tell us the bad news a week or more until the good news? Who knows, but it was a terrible decision on their part.

  • That’s interesting; I know from back when the VoG guns were first being discussed, there was mention that a gun can only have a certain number of perks before things start to go wrong. I wonder if that ties into the memory issue here as well, or if they’re separate issues. If they are connected, then additional perks could be a good solution to the community upheaval over this, but it definitely would’ve been nice to know about it all at once.
