Because SBMM got removed and it got replaced with CBMM which prioritizes matching sweats with normal people so the sweats can stomp.

  • CBMM is not the problem, and SBMM is not the answer. The problem is lobby balancing. Games shouldn't end in a mercy unless someone drops out or goes AFK. Mercies, or having to break up the teams to find a better match happens way too much. Bungie can gather 12 players using CBMM but then balance the teams with SBMM. It doesn't feel like they do, but if they do, then it's not working as well as it should.

  • While cbmm is not the problem generally, the spaghetti code of this cbmm certainly is. Bungie stated that turning on cbmm had un-intended effects (borked up) matchmaking. Based this weeks iron banner, I Honestly I do not believe we have any cbmm at all. No way people with gigabit fibre connections should be put into lobbies with the lagging, teleporting, raid bosses that I’m seeing at the top of every leader board (on my own team half the time). Unbelievable stuff I saw yesterday. I think it’s just 100% random open matching whoever it finds first is stuffed into one team and then the other team.

  • Bungie(DMG) said that removing skill matchmaking has lead to numerous issues with matchmaking and lobby balance. It looks like they will be addressing both. https://mobile.twitter.com/A_dmg04/status/1478470144024363015?s=20

  • while that is a fortunate/unfortunate bi-product, CBMM focus on the connection. If you look back at the history of complaints about this prior to the switch over, a large portion of the population actually demanded the abolition of SBMM because of the several issues it caused. Other game devs are being hounded for the same issue - get rid of SBMM in favor of CBMM. The underlying cause is some people would rather play with good connection instead of getting booted every 30 seconds, dealing with lag, and long matchmaking times. It's controversial to say the least - people hate it when it's CBMM, but then when it goes back to SBMM people will still complain.

  • I never faced too long connection times whether with SBMM nor with CBMM. Maybe I was / am just lucky. But the short SBMM time was way more enjoyable. Personally I enjoy tight games with beating or being beat by just a few points much more than lopsided ones. Control and IB currently are by far the worst Crucible modes. Imho.

  • Except with CBMM there are more lag and connection and matchmaking complaints. With SBMM there were none.

  • I started in Forsaken, and from personal experience, there was a lot more lag in SBMM. I've sat in orbit waiting for matchmaking to where I was able to cook my lunch, eat it while still waiting. If you go back, before the change, almost half the population was against SBMM - sweats and non-sweats included. Only 10% supported it. CoD players are asking to go back to CBMM, and so are Apex

  • Forsaken was CBMM my dude. Base D2 and season 2 was CBMM. SEASON 3 WAS SBMM. Then they changed back. Then we got SBMM back in season of dawn. Then we got CBMM back in beyond light.

  • I came in Season of the Drifter - and I remember my clanmates using my low elo to run PvP and Comp because they were able to stomp on teams. That's how I was able to get all the PvP pinnacle weapons because they did all the hard work, I just needed to finish the requirements. Whenever I solo queued like for the Redrix, I would get 20-30 kills a match. I don't recall any TWABs or announcements that it was changing until Beyond Light. If what you're saying is correct, then I prefer CBMM - less issues. If I lose, I take the L and work on what I did wrong to get curb stomped.

  • I prefer SBMM. Fair matches. Less lag. Faster matchmaking. No mercy matches.

Faster matchmaking in SBMM? 🧢 CBMM is either better or equal in all of those aspects

  • I prefer my matchmaking times to be in the seconds, not the minutes

  • I can’t seem to recall waiting that long with CBMM as I did with SBMM. Match making time are 30 seconds tops rn as opposed to about 2-3 minutes. There’s nothing like waiting three minutes for a game, just for them to get mercied in five minutes, then having to wait another three minutes. Truly the pinnacle of gaming I would much rather be matched with bad people with good connections than bad players with bad connections.

  • Same. Which is why i prefer SBMM. Took 10 seconds for matchups back in dawn for me. And no mercy's ever. Also much less lag and teleporting than now with this terrible CBMM. It also took 10 minutes to find a match last week with this "connection" based match making

  •
Took 10 seconds for matchups back in dawn for me.
Not in a high enough skill bracket
And no mercy's ever.
🧢
Also much less lag and teleporting than now with this terrible CBMM.
In the rare instances I’ve seen lag it is very brief. That sounds like a problem with your internet
It also took 10 minutes to find a match last week with this "connection" based match making
The few times that has happened, I just closed my game and fixed it.

  • My skill bracket is the 2.0 KD bracket though. And its not my internet. Because every other multiplayer game works fine.

  • I dunno - still dealt with a lot of mercies, had more lag, and longer match making in SBMM. CBMM while more mercies since sweats are playing non-sweats, I think it does a good job of weeding out the casuals and whiners. If I do bad in a match, I don't complain, I know I didn't do good. Point is, I don't get hung up on what I can't control; the fact that players are better than me. I focus on what I can, and that's playing UP to my competition. My personal belief is that's how one improves - baptism under fire. It either makes you stronger, or it turns you into a quitter

  • Thats a flawed opinion then. Facing the same skill makes you better faster than getting teamshot by sweats over and over.

  • You may say it's flawed, but if you play with the same skill level, you stay stagnant. To be successful you have to get out of your comfort zone, take risks, and not be afraid to fail. That's what almost every self-made billionaire mindsets are, and just about every world champion in their respective sports. I know not everyone learns this way, but I didn't start improving until I got stomped on, and learned to stop getting tilted, and find out what I was doing wrong. Watching replays, and learning from my mistakes. My skills didn't improve one iota when I was playing against people with similar elo. And while not representative of everyone, there is no issue with the people I run with - we accept that we are not always going to do well, and when we do that, it becomes more about having fun, then stats, or complaining about unbalanced lobbies, OP weapons, or OP armor.

  • This is a casual AF game, very few care about getting better, they do care however about made to feel like dog water, this is why people quit.

  • I am sure that's why with whatever physical sports you are exercising you compete every day with the high-performance cracks. Don't you?
