You are placed in control of the fire team to avoid situations like greifing or being booted at a loot drop. You also get to set the requirements for who is accepted into your fireteam to ensure they are capable of completing whatever your doing. Similarly you can only accept people who have a certain amount of experience.
Aslo people who are actively looking to do something in a LFG are a lot less likely to be AFK when the run starts.

This can be fixed by disabling the kick function the moment an encounter is triggered so you atleast don't lose your loot and can't be kicked right as the boss will die.
-
Or you can just make your own fire team. I do it almost every day, its not hard.

I do it too. There's no reason there can't be a server browser in game. It's honestly a joke for a game in 2021. Honestly, if they simply ported the Fireteam function in game in orbit or at the helm, I would settle for that. Sometimes I just want to immerse myself in the game and not mess with external devices and apps after a long day.

The question was "Whats the difference between finding randoms on an app and matchmaking?", not "What features could Bungie implement to improve the match making experience".
-
The question is implying that there should be matchmaking in game that was just my take at the end there if outright matchmaking couldn't happen.
-
There's really not much to read into, the question was literally "Whats the difference between finding randoms on an app and matchmaking?".
-
What do you think the question "so why make us do it?" Implies? Use your brain.
-
The quote was "not much usually. so why make us do it?", meaning the OP doesn't see the difference between premade fireteams and random match making. I explained the difference from my experience which defeats the purpose of the question. I guess the answer would be, "No one is making you do anything. You have certain matchmaking tools available that you can choose to use or not".

I don't care what the difference is from your experience. Sometimes you lose sometimes you get a good team. That happens with LFG anyway and your own opinion and experience shouldn't stop other players from trying something. It wouldn't even affect you. People said in the past matchmaking Trials wouldn't work but it caused Trials to peak instead and revitalized the activity. It wouldn't hurt to try.
