Seems like the culture at Bungie as a work place actually does care about stuff like this. Most of the employees that work there participate in protests and are vocal about issues on twitter like BLM, Trans Issues, and LGBT Issues. While I'm sure that some person somewhere involved in this is in it for the money, there are plenty of good humans at Bungie that are supporting this just because they're good people. Now as for whether or not this belongs in the game. Idk. It's their platform, so they can kind of do what they want with it. If they want to raise awareness for an issue they think is prevalent I don't see a problem with it.
