You're right its not a political issue, as much as US politicians try to make it one. Its a social agenda issue. Many feel there's no place within the game itself for that kind of information to be placed and the company should stick to putting that kind of information on more conventional social platforms instead. Of course its Bungies game and they can do what they like. My issue I take is that the company cherry picks WHICH social agenda it decides to focus on, such as race and gender identity. Meanwhile, other issues are put on the sideline because they dont get the social spotlight so to speak. A perfect example would be military Veterans. The US isn't the only country that has Veterans, and yet, this year on veterans day in the US, Bungie instead made the focus of the TWAB about transgender. Their reasoning, Destiny is a game that is played in many countries. Veterans around the world deal with various forms of mental and physical disabilities ranging from PTSD, depression, to missing limbs. Yet they are constantly and consistently placed in the background because it would be inconvenient to address these issues over something such as someones gender or race. Bungie even utilized a quote when announcing Accessibility at Bungie, "If you do not intentionally include, you unintentionally excluding." (Paraphrasing). Take this as me calling Bungie out, as excluding military service members and veterans around the world because we dont meet the social agenda. (I'm a former US Navy member).

  • Do you genuinely not understand why the veterans thing is problematic?

  • Why would recognizing veterans around the world on a day of recognition for veterans be a problem? I genuinely want to know why in your mind, you seem to think problems veterans deal with is less important than something like trans rights/awareness. Because to me, both issues deserve to be recognized and you cant put one issues as more important over the other, as that would be devaluing one group of individuals over another.

  • its pretty simple, war is a sensitive and divisive subject. celebrating the veterans of one country can be disrespectful to people from the country on the opposing side. imagine a scenario where bungie celebrated US Veteran's day with a splash screen and a number of people see it who had loved ones killed by Americans in war, they wouldn't be so happy to see that splash screen would they. And vice versa, if you had a loved one killed in a war would you want to see a splash screen celebrating the veterans of that country?

  • A fair and valid point. Very well articulated too. While I agree its a sensitive subject that would need to be handled with care internationally, something like a splash screen on login would be entirely inappropriate especially if it was one sided. Yet there should be some room for being able to recognize on all sides that veterans exist and many do struggle with various forms of disabilities. The truth is, no matter what the company does, it'll piss someone off somehow. Thread OPs post is an example. Doesnt have anything to do with them, but still mad about it. I'm just saying, in terms of acknowledging that there is a group out there and Bungie is actively choosing to exclude them, which feels wrong. I may be biased because I belong to that group, but it does feel bad that the company makes that decision.

  • you're right, no matter what they do, or in this case don't do, someone will be upset by it. if they were to have celebrated all veterans from all across the world many people would still be upset by it. im sure someone would say, "this is US Veterans Day, not global Veterans Day".

  • In some countries it's called Remembrance Day or Poppy Day but it's still the same concept of veteran recognition/appreciation and it falls on the same day as US Veterans Day.

Understandable take, I’d agree. You being put off for that reason specifically makes sense. I think there is also something to be said on companies virtue signaling in general. However the way the OP responded to it was what I took issue with. A transgender person isn’t political. There is no debate there on if that was okay for them to decide to do that with their body. Them seeing the splash screen and getting upset because they don’t agree with transgender people is just hateful.

  • Oh yeah, OP over reaction on a splash screen is for sure out of line. I just wish if Bungie was gonna wave these "social flags" around as a badge of merit asking for a good boy button, then they wouldn't cherry pick the issues based on a social agenda. Not saying that one groups problems are more important than another's, but pick and choose your battles at appropriate times as a company. If its Veterans Day, maybe talk about veterans instead of Trans Rights in a TWAB. After all, military appreciation only gets awareness about two times a year it seems, Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

  • For sure. On a side note, my dad used to be in the US Navy as well, it’d be greatly appreciated if they celebrated you guys at some point and drew awareness to the neglect there. Not enough people go to bat for vets and it’s a shame.
