No. Exotics should not be able to accept shaders. They are exotic. They are supposed to be unique in appearance. Putting legendary shaders or rare shaders or uncommon shaders on an exotic weapon tarnishes this exotic status and makes it just like other legendary guns.

There are already some exotic ornaments out there that are literally a shader. Some of those are most notably on the suros regime for example.

to be fair, we do that with armor sooooooo stfu
-
Yeah cuz we need the rest of our armor to match.

soooo you’re saying that exotic armor shouldn’t be special like exotic weapons? I mean the entire point of an exotic is to be unique and -blam!-, but bungie allows armor to be painted? sooooo stfu back atcha
soooo you’re saying that exotic armor shouldn’t be special like exotic weapons? I mean the entire point of an exotic is to be unique and -blam!-, but bungie allows armor to be painted? sooooo stfu back atcha
I think you fail to comprehend basic logic. First off, no where did I say exotic armor shouldn’t be special. If you can find that exact phrase of me saying that, I’ll shut up. And if that’s how you interpreted what I said before, you’re clearly an idiot. Exotic armor takes shaders because it goes with a Guardian’s look and the rest of their armor. An exotic weapon on the other hand never matches a guardians appearance because it would blend in. That’s the first reason. The second is that what makes an exotic weapon special is its unique look. Not some mediocre shader that other legendary weapons can use. That would devalue the weapon’s exotic status. What makes an exotic weapon exotic is its lore, functionality, and design. Putting a shader on knocks off one of the 3
Clearly you’ve never worn dunemarchers, cuirass of falling stars, ac/d feedback fence, or celestial nighthawk
I have...and last time I checked they are still armor

So, by that logic.... is an exotic still an exotic if everyone has a collection of them they can just pull out of thin air after having gotten it once before, and they all look the exact same?
-
How much is Bungie paying you to say that? This stuff is absolute bull -blam!-.
How much is Bungie paying you to say that? This stuff is absolute bull -blam!-.
Uh...no it’s not it’s just logic.

So what about the “ornaments” for exotics that basically just do the same thing as legendary shaders like gambit chrome? Do they tarnish the “uniqueness” of the exotic?
So what about the “ornaments” for exotics that basically just do the same thing as legendary shaders like gambit chrome? Do they tarnish the “uniqueness” of the exotic?
I hate ornaments. They shouldn’t be a thing but they have to for Eververse.

We can both agree on that then.
-
This is not Bungie’s reasoning. Bungie’s reasoning is that due to the power of exotic weapons, they would like them to be immediately recognisable in both PVE and PVP content, so you can either coordinate with your team, and potentially outplay your opponent. Ornaments are preferable to shaders, because it means one exotic will only ever look one of two ways, which is much more readable than one of hundreds.

We can use shaders on exotic armor.
-
We can use shaders on exotic armor.
That comparing apples to oranges. Exotic armor needs shaders because of armor appearance and matching to the rest of the set. An exotic weapon is a standalone item the character wields. Wears vs. Wields
