Bungie just nerfed the wrathborn and expunge farm for candy and pages to force players to complete 100 strikes instead of finishing the event quickly.
"Player efficiency is one of the ways that gamers are their own worst enemies, and one of the biggest problems that developers face. If players figure out that the best way to get the game's rewards is to run around in a five foot circle....they will do it. In the process ruining their own experience of the game. "This is where the developer has to step in and say, "No". No, you can't do that. No, you can't have that. In order to protect gamer's from their own worst instincts". .....Team Leader for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. A developer stepping in and putting a stop to a DEGENERATE game play loop ("a cheese") that is not how they wish their game to be played and is destructive to the enjoyment of the game is not a foul. It is their right (and arguably their responsibility) to do so....and is in the interests of the long-term health of the game. Its like a parent stepping in and telling their kid that they can't have pancakes and BEER for breakfast (But I wanna......!!!)
Here is what I don’t understand: why make players do more long boring core activities?
Because they dont' experience it as boring. They actually ENJOY playing the game itself, and the rewards are a secondary concern. Whereas you sound like a loot-motivated player. Which is fine....until the loot becomes such a motivating factor that it keeps you tied to a game that you really don't enjoy playing anymore.
Strikes have seen no changes since year 1 and don’t NEARLY compare to how good the playlist was in d1
Then why aren't you stepping away to play a game that DOES feed your need for something new? Its like saying "I'm sick of pizza"....but then ordering dinner from the local pizza joint every night. While never stopping to ask why you keep eating something you say you no longer enjoy, and insisting its the pizzeria's fault.

Brilliant. And though I agree many parts of the game became boring/repetitive over time - which activity in life doesn't face the same "destiny"??? - it's also clear the average player who plays hours every week easily can "finish" the event by... just playing what he/she enjoys anyway. It's funny the players complaining most - watch YouTubers (e.g. Paul Tassi) - are people who no life/treat this game as a profession and need cheeses/exploits the least. Yet moan about every requirement and look for exploits. Myself having hardly played this week, already earned lots of candy and pages by just doing what I want/do anyway and I am not concerned reaching max by the end of the event. Kiddies

  • And the toxic effect of streamers and content creators. You hit the nail on the head. The issue here is that people who have the most influence on community opinion have a very unhealthy relationship to the game…and have a financial incentive to demand things that are in their own interests, but not necessarily in the long-term interests of the community as a whole or the game as a whole. It’s reared it’s ugly head many times during the life of the franchise. At one extreme you have those who want to break the game. Because they either: have a business model based around glitches, cheeses, and farms; or one that is based on gear reviews so they have to be first to get them or keep up with those trying to get them as fast as possible; or they play multiple games…so they want to binge and then leave (Paul Tassi). At the other extreme you have guys like Datto. Who are basically professional gamers and either want the whole game…or large sections of the game…tuned to their level of ability. So there is more of a market for their build/theorycrafting and play guides. They want the game to be as inaccessible as possible short of ruining public interest in the game. In short players need to understand that these people do not have your interests in mind. (Especially the pvp streamers and creators). They simply want to squeeze what they can’t from it for their own needs, and will abuse their platforms to “convince” their followers to pressure Bungie for changes that are in their personal interests. But Bungie also needs to understand that these people do not speak for the playerbase as a whole, and trying to keep them happy at the expense of the wider player base is a bad bargain. They need Destiny more than Destiny needs them.

  • Replace Destiny by any game name. Don't think it's different with other games. Bottom line it's financial/professional interests vs entertainment/leisure activity interests. Back to OP's topic - it doesn't need exploits or cheeses to collect candy/pages/whatsoever. In essence we live in an abundance of loot/materials/rewards hiding the fact that real content is scarce.

  •
In essence we live in an abundance of loot/materials/rewards hiding the fact that real content is scarce.
Which is every loot game ever made. Its not a bug...its a feature. These games are DESIGNED around grinding familiar content. Which is why I tell people who complain about this, that its perhaps time that they examine their own tastes in games. Because this KIND of game may not be for them...and they are asking for an experience that ths KIND of game will never give them.

  • Exactly this^. Well put. Sure, it’s fun to cheese something time to time; but it inevitably hurts the game in the long run.

Why does anyone read your posts? Someone who is so narrowminded and whose worldview is so small that the only way he can understand someone disagreeing with him is that they are being paid to do it? Where you stand on an issue is a function of where you sit in the room.

I’m not anyone’s parent here. If someone makes a statement that is wrong on principle I will call them on it. Arguing that Bungie is required to stand back and let us vandalize their game simply because some of us find it convenient is wrong on principle. Unless you want to have others do that to your property, don’t do it to theirs. Unless you would stand there and allow others to damage your property, don’t hypocritically argue that someone should do that while their property is being damaged.

Oh, but I do. …and that’s the “problem”. Its my sticking to those principles that is pissing you off. Because you’re arguing naked self-interest…and trying to bash, bully, and shame me into conformity with that unprincipled stand. The irony is watch people like you bash these companies for their “greed” while being utterly blind to your own greed and disrespect for the property of others. Everyone has the right to defend their property. Bungie is defending theirs… from players who are willing to destroy the game for their own convenience.

  • You're posturing and trying to appear intelligent over a game forum.....just stop and think about that for a second. Not only that, but you're a shill, so nothing you type matters or has any relevancy. But keep typing all your pedantic diatribes.

  • Sorry you feel that way. But this is no different than Bungie suing those companies who make hacks and sell them to cheaters in court. I supported them then…and I support them here. If I want others to respect my property, then I need to respect theirs. Not just when it’s personally convenient. Principles that get ignored the second they become inconvenient arent principles. They are a pretense. What I’m doing? This is what integrity looks like. It’s acting based on what is right. Not who is doing it and who benefits from it.

  • The biggest problem with you is you intentionally report any post that doesn't support your opinions, even when there is nothing offensive whatsoever, you still report and get people comms banned because you're either working for Bungie or just really, REALLY thin-skinned. It's pathetic.

No. I mute people who think that disagreeing with me and not being able to win the debate is a license to insult me, and vebally abuse me, and there is no hope of any constructive engagement these people. I report those resorting to vulgarity that is in clear violation of CoC. I actually report very few people. The issue is that many of you behave so badly that you manage to run afoul of the mods with no help from me. And since you are committed to being in the first category, you’ve won yourself a block. Have a nice life. Muted.

  • I would be thrilled if you muted me. You're still on here lying and trying to evade the problem I pointed out. You've done it before, you reported me for saying your opinion was asinine and I got comms banned. You really reported me for using the word "asinine"... and now you want to lie about how you conduct yourself...how embarassing.

  • I think it's quite sad to be honest. I left this game for 2 years.. And he is still soo actively engaged on this forum.. He loves all the attention people provide him.. Because he has nothing else but this trash game.. and his opinions of others.. I told him he loves playing with twigs and berries.. He reported and blocked me.. Lmfao.. Such a loser.. He's the type of troll that never goes away.. The only thing that will Is completely ignoring his posts/comments.. Eventually it will not fulfill his emotional need of attachment and move on to another sad forum to throw is internet balls around the forum..
