Yea trials is end game pvp, new lights should start with a more casual playlist like control till they grasp the feel for pvp, go to rumble to improve your 1v1 abilities then jump to comp before attempting trials. Trials isnt reslly meant for new lights and to suggest we should cater end game pvp towards new lights that never played pvp is absurd.

If Trials is endgame PvP, Bungie needs to start treating it like it is. They need to stop trying to gear it towards the average player base and make it feel less obligatory.

  • They dont make it feel like an obligation to do Trials. I've only stepped into Trials 1 time and that was about 3 seasons ago when it was a Seasonal Challenge. Since then, I've literally not cared about it at all. You dont have to do it. If it seems like its an obligation, its only because Bungie is hyper focused on it at the moment with Labs and opening it up to more players by allowinf solo queue. Dont get me wrong, it's nice as a PvE player to see Trials back so there's some competitive PvP endgame content for those players, but when the forums are spammed with, "shatterdive too strong", "nerf this, nerf that", "Trials bad, fix it", and "PvP community is toxic" it gets annoying. Seems like nobody is happy and because of all these complaints, Bungie is backed into a corner of constant meta tuning instead of allowing their devs to, idk, create a new map for y'all.

i agree to some extent but having the average players in trials too helps keeps the playlist healthy otherwise it turns into nothing but what its been for years now where the playlist is almost dead with barely 100k pop. Personally i think what they've done having the flawless pool active on sunday and monday is a nice middle ground (though i hate the capture zone version of trials, i see what they were trying to do but all its done is encourage more camping)

But it's also not fair to feed live sheep to wolves. PvP has a large power disparity in it and people should play trials because they want to, not because they were coerced into it. If the population of Trials is low, maybe it should be removed entirely. Trying to force a mode that has consistently low numbers isn't a good use of company resources.

  • What terrible advice Control is a toxic POS for new lights, and for most Destiny players.
