If you go back and read multiple twabs they clearly state that going into trials solo will be very difficult. They have given solos an opportunity to get a taste of trials and earn loot with the new rewards structure. Until two weeks ago you needed a cracked squad of streamer elites to have a chance at even winning a couple of matches. This week as a solo I got guns and armor I never thought I'd have a chance at. Will I ever go flawless nope, but did I expect anything else, nope.
