It makes me laugh when people call all pvp modes competitive… there is no matchmaking. A competitive match is where the game looks at skill levels and sorts the matches evenly. This game puts noobs against seasoned players… for one that’s just game breaking.. we need tiers in the game so people can learn and climb up to where they belong. Competitive modes are no different than any mode.. unbalanced mess. The game just caters for die hard pvp players. Bungie forces players to play it for loot which is mind boggling. I like pvp when it’s fair and you are playing against people of your own skill level.. not just to be thrown into matches where you get stomped every game.. it’s soul destroying and that’s the developers fault.

Content creators need cannon fodder to produce free advertising for Bungie, showing off weapons and builds. That’s how Bungie rolls now.
-
Yeah, we had that. It was called comp but everyone complained about it on the forums and it got changed.
-
Sadly that’s near enough correct Except It weren’t everyone that complained It was just a select influential minority with connections/influence & followers/subs They complained As always Bungie listened - choosing to ignore the masses & instead look to appease their accountants/PR spin team

I mean, people were always whining about how hard it was to get to Legend, how hard it was to get to Fabled, how they had no chance to get any of the Pinnacles guns and eventually the playlist got ruined and is a joke.

Edited by Demon_XXVII: 9/30/2021 9:03:09 AMThe people that whined about not being able to hit Comp ranking/targets, receive & finish pinnacle weapons like Redrix’s C/B, Recluse, Luna, Not Forgotten, Revoker, Mountaintop etc Were never gonna get them anyway because A: they just weren’t good enough/committed enough to persevere B: there was a skill ceiling & C: Bungie failings I highlighted C for my own reasons I managed to get Luna, Recluse, (hit 4500 ish on the way to Legend, found my ceiling), & due to dexterity/C5-C8 nerve junction damage I can never get Revoker/Adored/other sniper bounties The current IB quest is a hard stop, Bow & LFR kills etc - there are many moments mid fight in PvP where my hands will simply stop/lose grip/direction on the controller Luckily (or unluckily) it’s only twitch fibres & grip muscles effecting gaming/writing/typing/pinching small items (picking not stealing) etc (notice the edits?) & finally MountainTop I started, 90% finished & restarted that entire quest twice over (the darn thing would never complete the Calculated Trajectory kills) & in the end they sunset the weapon anyway Since then, I’ve found a 3rd party app that showed I had 300+ CT kills Twice I tried, twice it got stuck …(after full reset, cache clear, reinstall etc) Got killed by it plenty, but now, I’m not sure it’s worth the ascendant shards from the tower kiosk Having a skill ceiling is fine Having broken & busted quests fail, is never fine! The Game needed/needs Comp It needs weaponry to chase at multiple levels I never wanted those weapons nerfed - those that earned them deserved them Balancing is one thing that needs to be done prior to release Nerfing just destroys the point of effort

It’s called quickplay

Edited by Demon_XXVII: 9/27/2021 5:03:53 PMAnyone who’s anyone in any level/field of sport/esport wants to fight/beat/play/conquer others at their level & above to prove that they are the greatest Except the ‘git gud scrub pub stomper’ sweats in ANY PvP game But in D2 PvP It’s peer to peer (and with D2, that means up to 12 players, all having to send/receive packages & all revealing their IP’s to sniffer software, that then allows for folk to DoS attack) And besides, there should never be a ‘meta’ But consistency with gun play/mechanics, physics, actual hit registration & realisation that a wielding a bloomin HC/Shotgun wouldn’t & shouldn’t automatically win any battle! Bungie would need to change the netcode, the tic rate, throw out the potatoes & purchase 128Hz servers, maintain them, install an anti-cheat system & actually care about the balance/matchmaking/introduce proper tiered/ranked SBMM etc Y’know, respect the playerbase & the money spent by them Maybe 2022 will be different - but looking back over the last 2 years at Bungie, it’s never gonna happen!

A competitive match is two teams going against each other. A fair competitive is two teams of similar skill going against each other. Fairness and competition aren’t the same word. You might not like it, but words aren’t redefined because of personal preferences.
-
Nice semantics. The reality is that in most activities, fairness is implicit in to the definition of competition, so there is no need to play semantics to separate them. The only time that is required, is when the competition is unfair and then morons play semantics to justify a rigged system as still being competitive.
-
Not so. The events are completely different. A coordinated event comprised of multiple prearranged teams to a play a game with not just rules for the game itself but also conduct of the players. Aka real sportsmanship. Versus A random assortment of people, playing for their own personal reasons, with none to little in the way of coordination or conduct rules. Where players actively work against their teams interests for their own. Aka your run of the mill match made game Suffice to say, fairness may be implicit in one of those. It dang sure ain’t implicit in the other. I’ll let you square it up.
Competitive modes are no different than any mode..
The other modes sure could be different if that's what more people wanted. If they put people in tiers then everyone in that tier needs to get the same movement and shot registration. Good luck with putting that on Twitch.
-
So you are saying what’s happening now is that people don’t have the same hit registration so it won’t make much difference.. if there are tiers. At least pvp will be based on skill not unfair teams.
-
Then where's the improvement. And why should someone want to watch that?
-
Watching an actual competitive match where players of similar skill have actual bragging rights.. not fake flawless against average players
-
Its not competitive if the game is forced to do all kinds of things to make it look that way. If someone is going to be in the same tier as someone else and that's going to be called competitive then they should all have the same shot registration. And if the point of the tiers is to shield people from people who are better than them why should they take people who are even better than that and subject them to not having as much shot registration as the famous people and have those famous people make videos out of that? It should be equal shot registration within each tier. Why should the shot registration not be earnable?
-
Most if not all pvp games have tiers. Not battle royales. Why should destiny not have actual matchmaking rating. It makes the game competitive. I get shot through walls I hit 3 headshots and then get one taped.. hit registration isn’t here now so why should that also go in favour of the sweaties. I get punched when a player has his back to me or if I’m above passing a player when there is no way I can get hit. So what your saying would be a problem that already exists currently.
-
D2 doesn't have tiers because it's PvP modes was never meant to be focused on the esports element of things. Trials, for instance, wouldn't work in such an environment.

Edited by A_mo: 9/27/2021 2:53:30 AMThere's a reason why it exists currently and it doesn't have to exist in the amount that it does currently. I'm just not so sure whoever is at the bottom of the upper tier is going to keep showing up for how that would turn out. But they are probably a relatively small group so there's that. I'm also not really sure it makes much sense to give someone worse shot registration for being better than someone who isn't classified as a sweat when being better is the justification for why the people at the top of the sweat tier are going to be handed video quality material nonstop made out of other supposed sweats who have lower stats.
