The Umbral Decoder has to be unlocked via the current season's quest. For season 15 that quest is called Wayfinder's Voyage.

I have some serious issues with this. I’ve explored all avenues. Wayfinders Voyage is at step 6. With no option to progress this week. Legacy: Path of the Splicer is now at the Decrypting the Darkness point. Legacy: Challengers Proving is now at the Decrypting the Darkness point. Any ideas on how to progress? My current character was made not long ago. And all previous characters have been deleted. Part of me now thinks that maybe because I started the Wayfinders Voyage with a previous character that I had already previously done Decrypting the Darkness in the past season. (This character is now deleted.) this has caused the system to glitch. Not allowing me to progress with my new character.

I deleted a character yesterday who had already done all the necessary quest stuff, and now I'm unable to do Decrypting the Darkness. I've done every step of Wayfinder's Voyage. I've completed the New Light quest. Yet, when I attempt to enter the Prismatic Recaster, all I see is "Sorry, there are no items available here. Please check back during a future visit to see if there is any new inventory." Decrypting Umbral Engrams at the decoder do not progress the quest.

I have the same issue. Everything worked fine on first character but my two alts are stuck on the decrypting the darkness quest. I have not deleted any characters.

When you interact with the Wayfinder's Compass in the HELM do you see any available quests on any of its inventory pages?

When at the Wayfinders Compass all that appears are the following tabs; •Wayfinders Compass •Bounties •Rewards There are no quests to collect etc.

On the character(s) you're currently using, have they completed the New Light quest?

Character is currently at step 5 of 21 of “A Guardian Rises” I will finish this quest line now and update after.

Let me know, there definitely have been quite a few players that recently created new characters on accounts that have at least one other character that had already unlocked the Umbral Decoder. Once one character unlocks the Decoder it should be unlocked for all the characters. So the only thing I can come up with is if the New Light quest might be blocking access which it has been known to do with other activities in the past.

Now completed the new light quests. To no avail. I’ve tried discarding the Wayfairer quest and reloading but still now luck. My only other option I can think of is to start a new character. But I’m against that as I’ve almost redone Beyond Light etc so don’t want to have to grind it all again. Hopefully Bungie can come up with a fix soon! I can still claim Umbral engrams in the meantime. Though I would rather be able to focus them.

Currently there are roughly a dozen reports of issues with the Decoder where it is unlocked on one or two characters, but for a newer character it is locked with no apparent means to unlock it since Decrypting the Darkness appears unobtainable. We've taken a report from one player that provided extensive screenshots and have submitted it to Destiny Player Support for developer investigation. At this point I don't have any suggestions to try and fix it because it is looking more and more like it might possibly be a glitch.

I am having the same issue but I don't think it because of a new character. Decoder unlocked on first character I played during this new season but my 2 alts which were started when destiny 2 launched are both stuck at decryptiing darkness quest and prismatic decoder does not work. I did not play seasons 13 or 14. I think that is were the issue is coming from with the legacy quest lines.

Basically if you have unlocked the Decoder on one or two characters, the remaining character(s) that don't have it unlocked don't appear to be able to acquire the Decrypting the Darkness quest. The only people who won't have this problem are those players who unlocked the Decoder on all their characters prior to the release of season 15.
