Short question: does everything on a patrol needs to be complex?
The events served a purpose back then and still serve one. They are good for racking up XP, blue gear and legendary gear for scrapping (and getting weapon rolls from Banshee), Clan XP, charge grind for the seasonal items like the Hammer and so on. They also bring people during patrols together, to bring a bit more immersion to the shared world design of Destiny during patrols
You can do all of them solo for heroic, they are quick, refill your supers etc
Not everything needs to be in some sort of endgame state. There are always people who haven't played the game/franchise for 7 years or more, therefore an easy activity is needed, even if it is just a patrol event.

Nope you just start the event and Kick butt and chew bubble gum And collect your loot no Complexity required

I dont disagree with that. But there can be more to it. Truly there can. Look at Alter and Blind Well. Although similar they are a step up from the average public event. Also they have more of a specific loot pool. This makes it a little more intriguing. Especially for newcomers. Now at the end of a Well you basically choose your difficulty level, usually depending on how many guardians are there. That's great. Then to go heroic you just throw an unstable in and boom. Either way it's not something you generally can or choose to solo. This is what I'm talking about. The normal public events just need some tweaking. Not taken out. The whole mechanics of making normal ones go heroic is the fun bit I think. We need that but just maybe that extra level of challenge. Something to bring us in again.
