I won’t even argue that. But that doesn’t mean we should ask for characters to come back, especially when the death had weight.

It's a balancing act on a very fragile line. I agree that we shouldn't bring back Cayde (as a Cayde fan) for the very point you mentioned about Forsaken being pointless, however bringing back S14 unfortunately opens up that pandoras box of arguments for Cayde.

The first time Saint-14 was brought up in game (Quest missions for Perfect Paradox in CoO), Bungie set up his return. Reminder that before that point Saint was MIA, we only learned of his death in said mission. Not to mention he died inside the Infinite Forest, a Vex simulation engine. Saint-14 is the only character that could have been resurrected.
