It wasn’t specific in the 7/29 TWAB. It just says Console (with Stadia).
-
ALL platforms will have crossplay. A console player will only encounter pc players by opting in first (inviting a pc player). Stadia is considered a console. Im assuming gen based matchmaking will remain the way it is now since bungie hasnt said anything, hopefully not and bungie tweaks it so 1 next gen player on a fireteam enables next gen only mm (instead of 1 last gen player bypassing next gen mm).

Edited by Fate: 7/31/2021 1:25:42 AMMost likely since 90% of players are still old gen thanks to scalpers and the lack of stock of next gen consoles Old gen already runs crossplay on many other games So it’s 99.9% probable
-
who cares about crossplay ?
-
From what I know, yes they will. Old gen will face new console gen players (good luck with that btw). Pve will be crossplay 24/7 for all platforms. That makes sense since pve is just for giggles anyway. Pc players should probably prepare to see extremely sluggish moving guardians on pve, those guys are most likely the old gen running at 30 fps lol.

Until MS and PS solves the supply and demand issue for their respective consoles, game developer will have to be very cautious about this. Supporting old gen hurts demand for next gen console. Supporting next gen only makes things inaccessible for majority who cannot get hold of next gen console becuae it's sold out. Bungie will need to be fluid on this and whatever they say will have to change according to ratio of players on old vs new consoles. Consider a theoritical scenario, if 90% on d2 player base was old gen console and next dlc is only for next gen, how much sale will Bungie make? They will probably invest in throwaway code to capture the 90% market becuae it is more profitable. However, this could change over Christmas or summer holidays if console sale gets back on track and people buy it. Activision did the most clever thing on d1 launch, they bundled it with xbox 1 and ps4. That gave them a big inertia even when a lot of people owned the game on 360 and ps3. I guess it will be the same story for new features of game. Just wait and see.

Nope time to upgrade

I'd say it's unlikely, the new consoles can at least compete in power with pc, but the old gens cant. It would make no sense to build a technology for supporting old systems when they are trying to move forward

Edited by firerwolf: 7/30/2021 12:02:07 PMStadia is getting cross play so I think that’s your answer.
-
This is a good question
-
Based on the brief "beta" they did back at the end of May, I would say yes. I took part in that while playing on my Xbox One as well as PC and had no issue. Besides, if they weren't going to support the older gen consoles, they would have indicated it the same TWaB. I know that Bungie doesn't have the best track record on their communications, but holding back on information such as not supporting old gen would not have gone over well with the community. This would be like them holding back on announcing they would no longer be supporting the PS3 / 360 consoles when RoI was released.
-
Let’s hope next gen isn’t matched randomly with non next gen.
-
I don't see why not, especially if old consoles can play with current gen users. Just allowing xb1 to ps5/pc/stadia instead of just xb1 to xsx
-
Ewwww last gen. Gross!
-
Guardian,Archon Of Light
Blade Of The Traveler - old
Yes for PvE, no for crucible -
Obviously, old gen is still the majority of players and will be for quite some time as long as new gen consoles are hard to come by.
-
Most likely, last gen have crossplay to pc with plenty of games
-
I would assume that they would.

Edited by Shirtless_Captain_Kirk: 7/30/2021 12:22:26 AMKind of doubt it. Would hold everyone else back. Getting to be time to upgrade. Its getting easier by the day to get the next gen consoles. A PS4 compared to a PS5 or a PC is like ridiculous at this point
