They're just desperate for reward drops that they'll continue to never use because they're busy trying to clear content as quickly as possible.
You can't really stop them, but you don't have to revive them when they inevitably die. These players often believe they're better than they actually are and will get themselves killed. If you're lucky and this happens in a "darkness zone", just dance on their Ghost until you're killed too and start the encounter over again.
That's being really spiteful of course, but as they love to say: you can't tell me how to play.

I mean not reviving them is a bit unsportsmanlike too. I can see it once or twice, but not doing it at all is a bit silly…

or it's because you need to do 3 strikes to get a pinnacle drop. people generally don't like strikes in the first place so better to spend 5 min in a strike than 20 min especially when you have to do it 3 times. you can save a lot of time in the pinnacle grind.

I do this quite often, or if someone skipps a champion in Nightfall I will block their shots at the boss fight and when I'm the last guardian alive I leave and let them redo the boss fight with no ammo.
